4 years ago I posted here asking for a hand hold and for people to think of my then 11 year old DD who was having major abdominal surgery to remove a large tumour.

She was in theatre most of the day, and one of the things that helped me get through the hours and hours of waiting was coming back to the thread. Hundreds of people took the time out of their day to think of someone, somewhere and a little girl. I didn’t expect it to be, but it was strangely comforting.

The tumour was a rare type of neuroblastoma, which we found out once the histology was completed. We continued to be looked after well by the oncology team, and I’m happy to say that she’s in remission with no reoccurrence expected.

So, thank you mumsnetters - you awful nest of vipers Wine Brew Cake

I wasn't around then (well, not posting anyway) but so glad you got the support you needed and that's awesome that your daughter is doing so well!

BabbleBee · 13/12/2020 22:00

I completely missed your thread but how wonderful to read that you are all doing well now. Happy Christmas!

ShameMacGowan · 13/12/2020 22:10

What wonderful news op. I don't remember the original thread but someone close to me had virtual handholds from many vipers during a very distressing time in her life and i've honestly often wondered if she'd have got through it without MN. It's an amazing support line for some.

I hope you have a fantastic Christmas x

Thank you for the lovely replies

We’re had an ‘eviction’ party to celebrate the anniversary of her surgery, just her favourite dinner and reflecting on everything.

She was supposed to be in hospital for 10+ days but came home after 5... honestly I don’t know where she gets her fighting spirit from!

MsTSwift · 13/12/2020 22:23

Gosh what a frightening time for you all. My 12 year old had some worrying sym

MsTSwift · 13/12/2020 22:25

Sorry symptoms got the all clear on Friday but the prospect of a child being really ill is terrifying

BabbleBee · 13/12/2020 22:30

DD didn’t have symptoms at all, it was all so sudden. Went from being fit, healthy, active to collapsed in pain in a flash. It took a while to get a diagnosis - it wasn’t until a week later when she was vomiting, screaming in pain and ‘looking’ unwell that they scanned her and found the tumour. Terrifying at the time.
