@Leaannb

Christmas is haram for Muslim people. Why would it be excluding when they can't celebrate anyway
who told you Christmas is haram? obviously they do not celebrate Christmas in the way Christians do but nowhere in the quran or hadiths will you find anything saying its forbidden to receive Christmas cards indeed you will find. and i think you'll find many Muslims put Christmas trees up and almost all will politely accept Christmas cards
SelfIcellation · 13/12/2020 17:55

My Muslim colleagues have no problems with that. I think Jesus is a Muslim prophet too, unless someone with more knowledge can enlighten me.

40somethingJBJ · 13/12/2020 17:56

I used to when I lived next door to a Muslim family. They always shared food with us at Eid, and would put lights up in their window at Christmas.

OverTheRainbow88 · 13/12/2020 17:57

I get a few that says seasons greetings on it!

OverTheRainbow88 · 13/12/2020 17:58

@SelfIcellation

Yes, Jesus-Isa, is a Prophet of Allah, he is not seen as the son of God though.

Stripesnomore · 13/12/2020 17:58

Jesus is a prophet in Islam. Lots of Muslim are called Mariam.

GCITC · 13/12/2020 17:59

Yes I do, and generally they give one to me. Lots of Muslims celebrate Christmas just like we do.

Iflyaway · 13/12/2020 17:59

Why not? Christmas is a time of reaching out, whether family, friends or neighbours. We all sure need it this year!

I have (ex's) family, outside Europe. They have Muslim and Christian in the family. No problem at all. I love them. Best way to bring up my son I say. He (or I) don't care if you are Pagan, Buddhist, no religion, spiritual, whatever floats your boat, AS LONG AS YOU DO NO HARM.

Chanjer · 13/12/2020 18:00

Jesus is the second most mentioned individual in the Quran and is revered by Muslims

Jesus is seen as second in importance of the prophets of Islam behind Mohammed

They just don't believe he's the son of God

They generally don't find it offensive to celebrate his birth

Gwenhwyfar · 13/12/2020 18:01

There's no 'should' about it surely. You can if you want to. I'd be surprised if they were offended.

notacooldad · 13/12/2020 18:01

Our muslin neighbours send ud Christmas and Eid cards.
They bring food round at Eid and they e vit a christmas tree up.
I asked them if they had a nice Eid and dad said ' yeah, it was ok, its for the kids though innit!'
😅

Givemeabreak88 · 13/12/2020 18:02

My daughters best friend at school is Muslim so would it be wrong for my daughter to give her a card? I didn’t think it would be a problem Confused

Thanks!

Really? Not according to the Association of British Muslims.

Why don’t you actually research something before talking nonsense.

jibberjabb · 13/12/2020 18:04

I'm a Muslim and I give and receive Christmas cards/gifts. It's a very thoughtful gesture and I'm sure they will be happy that you have thought of them to give a card.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 13/12/2020 18:04

@yellowcatss apparently there is some group proclaiming it's haram. But from what I understand it's quite an extreme group which we wouldn't encounter here.
Otherwise you are right. All my muslim friends and family side are ok with Christmas and some even enjoyed them in my home. Just without alcohol and with some halal amendments to the food.

Op, I would give them the card but your yanbu is stupidly written tbh.

Florence1960 · 13/12/2020 18:04

That would be a nice thing to do. Choose a scenic card though or baubles, a tree or similar. Nothing with eyes or it will be difficult for them to display.

SirGawain · 13/12/2020 18:05

Yes you should I have a colleague who is an Imam and I always send him a card and his family mark Christmas in a secular way. He is always appreciative. By the way Mary and Jesus are significant figure in Islam.

TheFuckingDogs · 13/12/2020 18:05

Yep I live in a really Muslim place and it’s completely normal

year5teacher · 13/12/2020 18:06

A girl in my class gave out Christmas cards to her friends and had a Happy Winter one to her Muslim friend who doesn’t celebrate Christmas. She drew a penguin on it. 😭 obviously don’t do that but I think it’s the cutest thing ever.

ZadieZadie · 13/12/2020 18:07

Yes please! Smile

Nanalisa60 · 13/12/2020 18:07

I always give my Muslim neighbours a large box of quality street for Christmas, this year for the first time in the three years that they have lived in our street, that have put up Christmas lights outside there house. I think they are
Just as feed up as the rest of us and wanted some pretty lights to cheer the street up. Loads more lights in the street this year!!

Winecrispschocolatecats · 13/12/2020 18:07

I know a fair few Muslims and they all happily take part in all the Christmas festivities including giving/receiving cards (maybe not midnight Mass, but then nor do we). Let's face it, it's just an excuse for family time & to have fun with Santa - the religious aspect is irrelevant for a significant number of us, but we celebrate anyway 🙂.

0blio · 13/12/2020 18:08

@BrightonEarly1

If christmas cards are in your culture then do it.

Being Muslim doesnt mean being mortally offended by well intended gestures from another culture.

Absolutely this! It's a nice gesture and if giving cards is something you would do, then go ahead and give to your neighbours.

When I had a Muslim boss he used to give all the team cards and gifts at Christmas.

Chanjer · 13/12/2020 18:08

By the way Mary and Jesus are significant figure in Islam

As are many of the key stories of the Bible featured

With adaptation for the concept of isma
