Told to self isolate - concerned about mental health

Hello,

So I've had a message alert today on my NHS track and trace soo to inform me to self isolate for 9 days.
My partner is the only person I've been with since the start of the last lockdown, and we haven't actually been anywhere since the lockdown started other than work (I don't check into work each day using the app)

I am really concerned for my mental health. I'm struggling immensely with my ongoing anxiety and depression, having obtrusive and obsessive thoughts and my OCD is getting out of hand. I'm on medication but don't feel it's helping much with the general stress of covid and now having to self isolate. Even before covid - staying indoors even for a day; made me extremely anxious.

The thought of being stuck inside is making my stomach flip. The anxiety is kicking in, in full force already.

AIBU to feel this way? I'm jot dating I won't abide by the rules; but I just feel this is going to affect so many people's mental health. I'm genuinely concerned for mine. ☹️

If your phone is not with you then you should turn off the tracking. Turn it back on when you have the phone with you again

Violetparis · 12/12/2020 18:26

I know it's not the rules but if I was suffering with MH issues that would be my priority, can't see how a walk on your own or with your household is a risk to anyone.

@hidingbehind2

** I'm not saying I won't abide by the rules. Gosh I can't type today!!!!!!
There’s no legal requirement to isolate if the app tells you, only if you are contacted by T&T.

Who could have triggered the app? It doesn’t understand walls between houses!

WorraLiberty · 12/12/2020 18:33

Why haven't you been anywhere other than work?

Are you immunocompromised?

That alone can't be good for your mental health.

Orangeblossom77777 · 12/12/2020 18:38

OP I like the Calm app for stories and music if you need something to distract you.

Orangeblossom77777 · 12/12/2020 18:39

Also I am unsure if you need to follow that app, could you just go for walks perhaps and be careful not to see others etc? Just use your common sense.

Diddlysquatty · 12/12/2020 18:42

I don’t have full confidence in the app to be honest
I thought it wasn’t a legal thing that you had to isolate if you are just told to by the app abs not someone on the phone via test and trace. If it was someone at your work then you would have been contacted by phone.
I know it’s controversial but if you haven’t told anyone it came up on there I would take the app off your phone and wait and see if you are contacted

I don’t understand why anyone has this app, but especially of isolation would cause you distress ( as it would me, pacing my tiny flat).

@Jaxhog

"If you think your mental health will affected by 10 measly days, try shielding for 3 months"

What's your point ?
Someone could come back and say oh you've shielded for 3 months try being in a brain injury unit for 6 months. Oh yea well try being in a care home for a year, oh yeah try being being in a mental institution, oh yea try ........
Hope you get my point

Mycuppatea · 12/12/2020 18:47

OP I understand how you feel, I had to isolate for 14 days with my 3YO after a positive case at nursery. It was tough. I hate having to stay indoors, for me it goes back to having severe PND, I literally couldn’t leave the house and it just brought all those feelings back. I tried to get into a relaxed routine - like a holiday, get up late, watch movies with the little one in bed etc. Try and get a routine, go outside if you have a garden, binge watch boxsets or read. It will pass, hope you’re doing ok x

You can do this OP. Look into some therapy techniques and forums for your OCD; find some recipes you want to bake/cook or films that you want to watch and take the time for some TLC.

I have severe OCD and find distracting myself with online shopping/window shopping; chatting to people on whatsapp and making fun future plans (e.g. a holiday next year or for Christmas) really helpful. The OCDuk forum is great for support too.

But you say you haven't been anywhere anyway apart from work? It's really not much difference is it?

Sorry you are struggling with you mental health.

GabsAlot · 12/12/2020 18:56

if you havent been anywhere who do you think you have been on contact with

unless others have had it at work and your phone was on

Redcherries · 13/12/2020 13:49

How are you op?
