Just 4 gunboats?

Don't they know how big the channel is and the whole fishing area?
Not enough.
Our territorial waters need defending.
Deploy the fleet.

This from a recent DM article about a large trawler

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9048047/Foreign-owned-trawler-controls-QUARTER-Englands-fishing-quota-biggest-Brexit-share.html

"Armed with cannon and machine guns, they will patrol the English Channel and Irish Sea to stop illegal fishing.

In a dramatic ratcheting-up of No Deal contingency planning, Wildcat and Merlin helicopters are also being placed on standby to help with coastal surveillance.

And military personnel have been seconded to the Joint Maritime Security Centre to help deal with any clashes in fishing grounds"

Cannon and machine gun?

Do they expect to shoot at the boats? Because that would go down well...

In Aquaman they have these awesome battle sharks, we should totally get some of those. I like them almost as much as the war Rhinos in Black Panther but I don’t think those would work as well under water

Hoppinggreen · 14/12/2020 10:58

Speaking of Aquaman could he perhaps help us train the fish to stay close to shore so the pesky French can’t reach them? Worth looking into I say

HappydaysArehere · 14/12/2020 11:11

Johnson thinks he is Churchill (what a delusion) or even Thatcher!
This threat will certainly help us to form good relations with any trading neighbours we manage to keep. Also now we are supposed to keep all this fish how can we sell it to Europe?
He is an idiot. Blame Corbyn and co for handing him a huge majority. His egotism is huge and his brain tiny. We have a journalist for a PM. Voted for by the Tory Party as they thought his comedic deliveries all delivered laced with plenty of Greek and Latin would fool the voters into believing his lies. Lies are his stock in trade so that is where we are now.

OchonAgusOchonO · 14/12/2020 11:16

Blame Corbyn and co for handing him a huge majority.

The only people you can blame for his majority are those who voted for him. Sure, Labour not making themselves attractive to the voters didn't help but people could have not voted, spoiled their votes, or voted for other parties.

HiveHoofHole · 14/12/2020 11:24

I agree with you @chomalungma
We must have a resolute position. I believe the navy should release its pods of trained attack dolphins to drop explosives among schools of tuna. Mine-laying vessels could stir up the scallops feeding on the sea floor. Helicopters could fire air to surface missiles to stir up those that surface. After 48 hours of precision strikes and military action....

Voila! Je te donne Bouillabaisse!

We can sell it oven-ready to the French!

unebaguettepastropcuite · 14/12/2020 11:27

I think NATO might have rules about 1 member attacking another!

Surely the services are too busy dealing with COVID vaccinations and the Nightingale hospitals, to be able to get involved in a fishing war.

Or maybe this will be Boris’s jingotastic “Falkland’s moment” where he gets a war like Mrs Thatcher, for his posh friends to wave their Union flags about and J Rees-M make more money.

And dealing with those pesky Russian submarines and planes as well/

I don’t have a copy of “Jane’s Fighting Ships” to hand to refer to but am sure that the fleet is smaller than it once was.
