I've bought a ticket for tonight's lottery and will most likely win it. When I told DS1 he informef me that he intends to use my winnings to buy a castle in the German Alps and decorate it with portraits of himself in historical garb.

Now I have no problem with the portraits (I have a local artist in mind who is really excellent), but there is no way I want a castle in the German Alps. For a start it's not exactly convenient for school /the rest of our family and we don't know anyone who lives there.

I don't think it's practical but DS says I'm just being mean, AIBU?

I've had a google and this one seems to be available. I'm not sure whereabouts she is though and if she's prepared to travel.

He's home from school, we've had a chat and I have sent him to clean his room. I think I was too hasty in my original decision and a cold, small castle in the German Alps is a great idea. I will hire him a strict governess who uses corporal punishment - I have never smacked him and am now regretting this.

We have dual citizenship so there will be no problem there.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I have looked at the castles linked here but the energy ratings are E, so I wont bother with them. I'll stick with the loft conversion and extension as planned and add solar panels.

Why is everyone obsessed with castles? I like them and all, but I wouldn't be keen on owning one. I bet they're a PITA. I imagine they take a lot of time and time is one thing I probably won't have a lot of next year.

Exactly, Neuschwanstein is lovely, when it comes on rightmove I'll be there! If you can afford to buy these places you can afford to have people lighting fires all over the place to heat it.
