Friend was telling me a story about his acquaintance X:

“So X was seeing this girl in Anytown and her name is Y and Y is a black girl, and then ......blah blah blah (load of detail about what X said to Y and vice versa)” none of which related to what race Y is.

I wanted to interrupt and say to my friend “what does Y being black have anything to do with this?”

Thoughts please ?

No idea. But it is usual to mention a characterisitic of someone, to give a feel for them, to somone who hasn't met them.

I suppose her being black shows Friends innate racism though!

He could have said she was a teacher, acountant etc, if he knew.

Then again, having always been referred to as the red head with boons I can usually not muster up outrage about such things! And yes... I know what comes next...

But yes, you should have interrupted him and asked!
