I have inflammatory bowel disease. Bleed on and off. Been found to have mild inflammation.

Just been to the toilet and the bowl was covered in blood and this was the loo roll. Is this something I should urgently get checked out or wait until the morning? Feel okay in myself, been very fatigued though as working a lot.

Wouldn’t usually come here to ask but baby is asleep upstairs and just wanted some opinions,

Go back! Now! Blood loss is a red flag symptom. Hope you’re ok.

Purplewithred · 10/12/2020 09:05

Unless A&E gave you other instructions it seems sensible to take yourself back there this morning.

HollysBush · 10/12/2020 09:08

Yes, I would go back as you are having lots of ongoing bleeding (not just occasionally, when you have a poo). Did they take blood tests?

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 10/12/2020 09:08

Sorry to hear this OP. I have Ulcerative Colitis and this is my normal. I have been like this for 20 years but if this is new to you then you absolutely must get yourself back to the hospital to be checked out. Do you have an IBD nurse? I find them the best help if you have access x

AnyFucker · 10/12/2020 09:10

Can you get an urgent appointment with your gp today ?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/12/2020 09:12

They sent you home in that state. Im actually sickened and disgusted
Would they send their own mother or grandmother home in that condition.
You need to go back immediately.

Hopefully its nothing serious, but lets be honest shittng blood is no joke.

Plonque · 10/12/2020 09:12

What is their diagnosis? Their reasoning on sending you home?
Don't feel you can't go back or that you're making a fuss.
With that degree of blood loss I think you really should be making a fuss.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/12/2020 09:15

Why did they send you home?

blubberball · 10/12/2020 09:16

Call them back. Get well soon op Flowers

WheresMyMask · 10/12/2020 09:17

Go back

AnyFucker · 10/12/2020 09:19

Op needs an urgent endoscopy and A+E cannot arrange that.

You need to urgently speak (today) to your usual consultant (do you have one ?) or if not, your GP.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/12/2020 09:21

I have Ulcerative Colitis and this is my normal

I had no idea people have to live with this, and I'm really sorry you have to, LivingMyBestLife2020

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 10/12/2020 09:25

Try speak to your IBD nurse or consultants Secretary. IME, a&e and GPs don’t know enough about IBD.

This was my everyday too for years until I had a colectomy. It’s fucking horrible, I feel for you. Crohn’s here!

MillyA · 10/12/2020 09:31

I hope you're ok OP Flowers

thebabessavedme · 10/12/2020 09:32

Call your IBD nurse, I think you should see your consultant, I have UC and that very fresh blood would worry me - you may need to change or up your meds, in the meantime sleep as much as you can and get some water into your system (not ice cold!, I find that shocks my bowels when I'm flaring) Wishing you luck and hoping this flare dosen't go on too long.

thebabessavedme · 10/12/2020 09:36

@BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum, you are sooooo right, I find GPs do not have much idea about IBD or how debilitatating it is, the blood loss, the fatigue, the urgency of needing a loo and the all round miserableness of it all.

Onadifferentuniverse · 10/12/2020 09:40

Oh god that sounds super scary- i hope you get the help you need soon!

Samanabanana · 10/12/2020 09:43

Please go back to seek further investigations. That sounds awful. Hope you're ok.

Lovemusic33 · 10/12/2020 09:57

My mum has ulcerated colitis and when having a flair us passes blood like you describe. Phone your GP this morning and ask for a referral for further investigation, obviously if the bleeding continues go back to A&E.

spiderlight · 10/12/2020 10:08

I have ulcerative colitis (severe pancolitis, although currently in remission). That's not unusual for me when I'm in a major flare, but it needs seeing too - if you have a direct number for your IBD nurse, try to get hold of them. Hope you're feeling better soon.
