Mine is that a traditional Christmas dinner is horrible
Turkey - bleurgh, so dry
Sprouts - farts posing as leaves
Parsnips - how can anyone put them in their mouth?!
Stuffing - like eating sand
Christmas pudding - sour booze disguised as cake
Christmas cake - way too dry and that much fruit does not belong in a sponge

I'd honestly be happy with a plate of pigs in blankets, a jar of cranberry sauce and a spoon to eat the sauce straight from the jar.

Santa is old and obese and should be shielding.

Not spreading germs around the world to give presents to children whose parents are too lazy to buy them themselves.

What was the point of lockdown??? 🙄🙄

fitflopqueen · 10/12/2020 00:35

Yorkshire pudding has no place alongside a traditional Turkey Xmas dinner.

I've never baked a dry fruit cake.

What sort of weirdo would have Yorkshires with anything other than beef?

SleepingStandingUp · 10/12/2020 00:43

That's you're a bad cook

Queenest · 10/12/2020 00:48

Work secret Santa is usually a crap gift that gets tossed in the bin.

I don’t like Christmas cards. I’ve stopped sending them except to parents and in-laws. (Only because my mother is a stickler about cards for some reason)
I thought I’d feel liberated and I do to a degree, except now I have nagging Christmas card guilt when we still receive them which is even more annoying. I never put them up.
But they come from people I never see or know much about. We’re just on a ‘list’ and it seems crazy to keep doing it.
Other than that I do like all things Christmas

HeddaGarbled · 10/12/2020 00:52

There has never been a good Christmas song and most of them are unbearable.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 10/12/2020 01:29

If turkey was that nice, more people would eat it more than once a year.

grassisjeweled · 10/12/2020 01:31

I'm actually pleased we're forced to have a Christmas alone. No in-laws!

In other news, all that shit chocolate? Just unworthy weight gain to me

grassisjeweled · 10/12/2020 01:32

Also : bread sauce. I mean, what? Bread? Sauce?

garlic?bread??

😂

Shortfeet · 10/12/2020 01:33

Compulsory gift exchanging.

When you have to rack your brain to think of what to buy someone you shouldn’t bother

If your Turkey is dry you are overcooking it

Other than that I think a plate of pigs in blankets is a perfectly acceptable Christmas dinner!.

I am with you 100% there. My DH tried to say the other day that we had Yorkshires with Christmas dinner and I was both adamant and incredulous in my reply.

I love a good Yorkshire pud but not with Christmas dinner.

I love Turkey. Often have slices of it in sandwiches throughout the year. It's a bit big to cook a whole bird all the time

My heart sinks when I hear the intro to “Fairytale of Newyork”.

I totally get this. I have done the same. Didn't do them last year except for close family and people who would be mortally offended.

We are getting fewer and fewer cards which us fine but do feel guilty everything like I get one.

I hate doing them though and it's not very environmentally friendly so am going to stick to my guns.

SilverBirchWithout · 10/12/2020 01:44

I much prefer the lead up to Christmas to Christmas Day itself. Love the anticipation and preparation during December, and Christmas Eve. But find the day a bit bleuh - too much pressure about it being perfect and sad it will soon be over!

tobee · 10/12/2020 01:45

This!

Always the most straight laced tedious people like to claim it as "really speaking to them" as well. "Ooh me I'm such a cynic. How cool am I?"

I'm over that song!

tobee · 10/12/2020 01:46

Also, much prefer New Years Day. Less pressure. More variety.

TeenyTinyDustinHoffman · 10/12/2020 01:48

That it's not being a killjoy to state that Christmas is overly commercialised or that people are stupid to spend money they haven't got and go into debt for Christmas.

That a lot of parents are way too invested in the "magic of Christmas" and maintaining their children's belief in Santa.

TeenyTinyDustinHoffman · 10/12/2020 01:52

Agreed. Alcohol and fireworks.

However, I will admit to liking Fairytale of New York and, even more grudgingly, All I Want For Christmas Is You.
I do not like anything else by Mariah Carey and don't like most Christmas music but I find this oddly catchy.

StrawBeretMoose · 10/12/2020 01:53

It is still too early to have decorations up.
Fed up of Christmas tree photos from friends.
They'll be waiting a long time to see mine!

Obviously in real life I just comment 'lovely tree, looks great!'

I do like the Christmas food though.

Riapia · 10/12/2020 01:58

Christmas.
When people spend more than they can afford, on stuff nobody wants, for people they don’t even like.
😂😂😂

DuggeeBear · 10/12/2020 02:04

The fake over the top happy to see everyone. The fake over the top joy at opening yet another pair of socks. The stuffing yourself silly because it's Christmas, although I do enjoy all the foods.

I kind of breath a sigh of relief Christmas Day evening when I get into bed and relax safe in the knowledge the next day you aren't a prisoner to your own/someone else's home.

user1481840227 · 10/12/2020 02:10

I will never get sick of fairytale of New York ever Grin

Unpopular Christmas opinion - It's weird to be devastated that your child doesn't believe in Santa anymore
