COVID vacc - boss took credit

Hi
Ive been working on the COVID vaccine in addition to my other duties since about October so that my hospital were ready to go.
Since last Thursday I’ve worked 12 hour days
And worked the on Saturday
Yesterday my boss turned up for one hour and did all the media and then f*cked off
There have been other glory hunters on SM who turned up to a meeting last week and boasting about their achievement on SM
There have been other senior managers congratulating my boss and saying what a great leader he is........
I haven’t even been thanked
I am really really trying to focus on the patients and rallying the small number of dedicated staff on the ground but I am actually fuming and feel very under appreciated
AIBU?

On day 2 - my boss and other senior managers have gone back to the day job and working from home while I carry on doing stupid hours and holding it together

I know I am being petty and I hate myself for it - but coping strategies /venting welcome

Im a bit confused, if you have been working on covid vac only since october why would you get any recognition, surely all the hard work would have been done prior to thisConfused

He's a bloke. What more do you expect Grin

yeOldeTrout · 09/12/2020 21:58

What did your boss say?
Did he actually say "I've been working 12 hour days & I did all the work to arrange the logistics of rolling out this vaccine, nobody else deserves any credit!" ?

Personally I hate talking to media so would have been delighted to foist that chore onto anyone.

The accolades in the press don't really mean much - what matters is what you can put on your CV.

Twistered · 09/12/2020 22:05

I really appreciate you . Thank you for all your hard work Flowers

LouScot · 09/12/2020 22:25

@middleage3 thank you for all your hard work. Sadly some people will always come along and take the credit for things they've had very little input into.

ScalpHelp · 09/12/2020 22:26

Sound like typical NHS

Thank you for all your hard work OP

Lougle · 09/12/2020 22:27

Sadly, he's your boss and his achievement is that he managed a member of staff to make sure the service was ready. The fact that you are the member of staff that put in effort is part of his good management.

I took that to mean she prepped the hospital/trust for the pending administration of the vaccine alongside her normal duties. Not that she personally developed and tested the vaccine. Labs do that, not hospitals surely?

I imagine OP means the logistics of rolling it out in her hospital not actually creating the vaccine.

Can you get one of your colleagues to thank you personally on SM so the bosses see it? ungrateful gits. While I'm here I'll say a big thank you on behalf of all the patients at the hospital. And start working to rule!

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 09/12/2020 22:55

Easy answer is stop doing all the hard work and long hours.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
It's a bit like how a nurse feels after looking after a patient all day, then the relatives ring and ask to speak to a Doctor to ask how the patient is doing.

Rockdown2020 · 09/12/2020 23:01

Congratulations on your achievement! It does sting when you’re not recognised for your hard work though, so I know how frustrated you must feel. What you’ve done will have such a positive impact on your patients lives, the local community and families being able to see one another again. It may be worth writing your own SM post if you feel you can. Even if the recognition is only from your own friends and family as opposed to professionally (although I’d be tempted to do similar on LinkedIn etc).

At the very least use it as a bargaining tool for a promotion or a step up into a different role.

Thanks for all your hard work. Just like in a theatre, the show wouldn’t go on without the lights, makeup, sound (all the backstage magic!) Flowers
