To ask you to put your house number where I can see it?

I'm helping out a friend who is doing deliveries from his restaurant to try and keep afloat. It's dark and it's raining - google maps can only take me so far. Would it kill you to put a number on your house? Or even on your gate so I can see it from the road? Also, if you live at 100 Main Road, please don't just put your house name because it sounds posh, your dinner will be very cold.

In France they seem to all have the same blue number plate prominently displayed. I wonder if they are given out by the local council

@AnnnaBananna, I get that too. Number is on the door and wheelie bin but I get the occasional 'Is this number 74?'. It's number 68.

Years ago neighbour had the police hammering on the door at 3 a.m. He answered and the police said 'Is this number 62?'. The wanted the house next door. Both houses had clear numbers.

@Roselilly36

Use sat nav, this strange wizardry will take you straight to the door if you enter postcode & street number.
Oh such naive optimism!

Great thread the other day that was about a close of 5 houses, all spread out, different numbers. The sat nav took them to the last house, no matter which house number you put in.

The delivery drivers constantly left parcels at the last house, even though the number is on the parcel and on the houses and the last house was NOT that number

They should also ban estate having simiar street/road starts.

Our entire estate has X followed by lane, ave, road, drive - it's about 20 roads with X followed by something else.

We're usually first road- though occasional a delivery has gone to other possible first- but number of HCP and deliveries where someone has only listed X bit and number.

So we have number and road name sign up and still get people looking no X and no further info - or postcode of first X that comes up in drop down list. It's also not always clear which end of road at cross roads corner house is in which street.

Didn't the emergency services campaign for a law (or planning law) that houses should all display a number that can be seen from the road ?

I felt so sorry for delivery drivers in the village we used to live in.

One winding round through village.
No house numbers, only names.
There were:

The Barn
The Manor Barn
The Old Barn
The Manor
Manor Farm
Manor Farm Barn
Manor Farm Cottage

It was a nightmare!
We just got used to dropping each other's post round.

I visit people at home for work, health services, and I feel your pain. The worst one was an address that I spent so long trying to find, say 346 on a busy road from 1 to 600. I drove up and down this road so many times, there were some houses with numbers then big gaps in the numbers. Eventually I rang the patient and was told 'oh we're the so and so pub', the patient lived upstairs in the flat above the pub. It might have been useful if that was on the address, not the number which was in no way visible and I'm sure never used. I knew exactly where the pub was and would have saved me so much time if that information was given in the first place 😣!
