AIBU to get 2 COVID tests?

I suppose this is more a WWYD?

DH and I booked our honeymoon for next week a year ago. Due to the travel restrictions lifting slightly we are not due to a refund if we cancel and rescheduling costs an admin fee greater than the cost of 2 tests each.

We are happy to go and have isolated to ensure we are fine for the past month! However, I am starting to worry.

Our destination requires a negative PCR Covid test within 96 hours of departure. We have paid £150 each for a Covid test which we will do Monday (the earliest time for it to go to a lab within the 96 hours). But I have heard horror stories of people’s tests not getting back in time. The company does guarantee a 24 hour response and reviews are positive.

A) Would you just do this test, hope to receive in 24 hours and if not, do another at a potentially greater cost last minute in the hope of getting a test done to allow travel.

B) do the test, if it doesn’t come back in time then nevermind. Our insurance won’t cover Covid now and the money is lost (£3k)

C) pay another £300 for 2 tests and so each do 2, each with a different company, in the hope that at least one test comes back? But potentially waste £300 for anxiety reasons.

We are looking forward to this so there’s also that element.

This is a tough one and I can understand the anxiety! I think I would go with one test and hope for the best.

Have you booked with a tour operator?

If so, can't you change the hol?

AndcalloffChristmas · 08/12/2020 18:20

If they guarantee it comes back in 24 hrs I’m sure you’re worrying for nothing.

@1FootInTheRave no we booked flights and hotel separately as it worked out £2k cheaper for the exact same thing. Our main chunk is with BA
