Aibu to ask for your help finding a Mandelgave?

At Christmas in my country we get sort of a rice pudding for dessert Christmas eve, it's loaded with chopped almonds and one whole non-chopped one. The lucky person getting that one is given a present - the Mandelgave (almond present).

I've bought said gift for years and years, delegated and now I'm at it again, but my imagination is bone dry. There are traditional (and boring presents) for this, but I would really like something special (just to show off Wink). Age range 20-60, both sexes. Preferably something to share, so board games would be lovely (but we have loads), price up to £60.

Please, please anyone more inspired than me?

Decent bottle of plonk?

FirmlyRooted · 07/12/2020 22:31

A big hamper of goodies?

Vouchers for a restaurant?

We have this sometimes at Christmas with my Danish relatives. We always eat it on our Christmas Eve, and twice now I’ve been too drunk to know if I ate the whole almond Blush.
I think they wrapped the dish in a duvet... not sure why!
Anyway, as a prize we have had... a really nice photo frame, a quality pen, a leather bound diary/journal, those sorts of things. It’s a tricky gift because it needs to appeal to range of people, on a day when they will be receiving a lot of gifts anyway!

AtlasPine · 07/12/2020 23:01

The duvet thing could be a wonderbag. Great for slow cooking, based on haybox cooking. I love mine.

If you have friends or family who are a bit green, it’s a great gift.

A swarovski Christmas ornament.... 2020 specific snowflake is £50, if you have a Christmas tree it would suit men and women of all ages and they are really lovely but as its a Christmas ornament you just have it out seasonally and as it has the year on its like a mini trophy of their win.

ANOTHER rice pudding? It could be like a rice pudding version of pass the parcel

This Grin. @Thingsthatgo The base of risalamande is rice porridge, it is heated and then you can finish cooking it in thick blankets or a duvet, (in olden times it was a box of hay) and shame on you being too drunk to find the almond, that will never ever have happened before Halo.

Re. Plonk, one almost none drinker in the party.
Hamper, would love this but what to put in for everybody to enjoy?

But would love something all can join in on.

Oh such memories of Xmas Eve as a child with my Danish best friend. I hated the pudding but would suffer it in the hope I would find the whole almond. I never did 😭

giantangryrooster · 07/12/2020 23:16

@yellowmaoampinball 🤣
That would be mean, after the main course it's difficult enough as is to muster an appetite for rice with whipped cream and almonds 🥵.

giantangryrooster · 07/12/2020 23:19

Well @Tootsietootie only ones I know who like it was my late dad and now dh, the rest are only eating for the present Grin.

I had never heard of the Mandelgave tradition but it is nice. Rather like the silver sixpence in the Xmas pudding. Always the chance of someone choking to death but hey ho folks don't let that spoil the game. Smile

As for the gift I have no idea. Some good suggestions above for those not watching the pennies.

På loftet sidder nissen med sin julegrød
Sin julegrød, sin julegrød
Han nikker, og han spiser, og han er så glad
For julegrød er hans bedste mad

Men....

giantangryrooster · 07/12/2020 23:29

@Wendyhaus atleast you have the good mind to drown your pudding in booze and set it on fire Grin.

@chipperfish

Og en, to, tre så er de væk, i en sæk med lakridskonfekt Wink.

There always seems to be some sort of gurning nisse as a prize at my inlaws. I find them a bit uncanny so am chewing every mouthful carefully Hmm

giantangryrooster · 07/12/2020 23:38

@chipperfish Aw you are just out of luck with your inlaws, gurning nisser as a price sounds worse than the traditional marcipan pig (and not something I have heard of). You have clearly chosen the wrong pils Grin.

We do this in my home country but the rice pudding/porridge is for breakfast on Christmas Eve. Smile I think we just got good luck for the following year instead of presents. Haha.

We've done that one yes! How many of you are there? I would say this works for Max about 6.
