AIBU to feel embarrassed

First day back in work today after long term sick leave, went in feeling very anxious about my return. Ended up having a complete meltdown during my return to work with my new manager.
I feel so embarrassed :( I thought I was ready to return to work but I guess I wasn't.

Honestly it's fine, don't be embarrassed.
I hope they treated you kindly, go back to your doctor and let them know and see if any more support can be offered.

Oh bless you OP, don't feel embarrassed its natural to feel anxious and upset. How are you feeling now?

Did you have a "return to work" interview with your manager before you started your shift?

That's best practice as then both sides can catch up with what has been happening in your absence and your manager can ask some gently probing questions to ensure you are well enough to have returned. Somewhere I used to work there were a couple of small offices off of reception where these meetings took place and you weren't even permitted to set foot into the business area until the manager had cleared you as being fit to return following interview.

Either way, don't worry. Do you have a Union rep you can speak to about the situation? It sounds like you need a bit more time off and then maybe a phased return where you come back on reduced hours and/or reduced duties.

Best of luck Flowers

I cried on my new manager when I was returning from mat leave. They asked how it was dropping baby off at nursery and I burst into tears. Full on ugly crying with snot. I was so anxious and been suffering from PND.

Not that same as I wasn’t off on sick but it did get better each day and after the first week I forgot how much I snotted on my new manager.

Don’t be hard on yourself, it’s tough. I would try to go back to work tomorrow and get back on the horse. If I’m a few days you are still struggling please call your doctor

Also agree with PP maybe look at phase return with your manager x

Thanks everyone.
I don't know if I have returned to work too soon I've been off for just over 9 months so I feel like I have been off long enough. I didn't see my GP about returning to work I chose to go back because I thought I was ready and I needed money. Now I'm worried I have gone back too soon and will end up getting signed off again :(
