To not change my holiday accommodation

Just had a call from haven, we've got a holiday booked with them next September. I usually book early so I can pay it up.

Basically they priced our accommodation grade wrongly and we've got quite the bargain. The gave me 2 options to downgrade with £50 of vouchers or to keep the one we booked at the wrong price they initially quoted.

I quickly responded that I wanted to keep the nicer accommodation but now I feel a bit bad about it. Mistakes happen and I'm sure if I downgraded they could sell our accommodation again at the right price and make up some more money. They're a massive company though I'm not sure I should feel bad for them?

What would you have done? Stuck or swapped?

100% keep it, it was their mistake. If it was a tiny family run business I might think differently but they’re not

Nottherealslimshady · 07/12/2020 12:34

Stuck. They're a massive company and it's their problem. Them wanting to now sell it for more is irrelevant.

We're the vouchers for food and drink? If so I'd have taken those but only because we're not that bothered about the accommodation when we go away as long as its clean and has enough bedrooms for us. But I wouldn't feel bad about not changing, I'd have only changed because that suits me more.

Fatbottomedgurl · 07/12/2020 12:55

100% would have kept the accommodation. Their problem, not yours. In my opinion, £50 voucher offer isn't a reasonable negotiation, and you would have been barmy if you'd taken them up on it.

Mylittleturkeysandwich · 07/12/2020 12:57

Yes the voucher was for food and drink. We've booked a 3 bed lodge with a balcony out over a lake. It looks gorgeous. DS is only wee and will be almost 2 when we go so we'll probably spend a reasonable amount of time in our accommodation which is why I picked it. It also has proper sized beds which I quite fancied. They have wanted to move is to a (really nice) 3 bed caravan but I quite fancied trying the lodge. It is however normally out of budget.

It's their mistake, I don't see why you shouldn't get what they advertised. Given there's only 3 of you could you meet them "half way" and take a 2 bed lodge if such a thing exists?

TheProvincialLady · 07/12/2020 13:22

You don’t need to meet them half way! You booked abs paid for accommodation as advertised. They offered you either £50 to change or said you could keep the accommodation you booked. You opted to keep the accommodation you chose (who wouldn’t?!) and I doubt they are now going into administration as a result! No one is even thinking about this except you.

If they really wanted you to accept worse accommodation, £50 poxy food vouchers was not the way to go was it?

Mylittleturkeysandwich · 07/12/2020 13:46

@TheProvincialLady you're right. I know you are, I am a chronic over thinker. I asked DH and he was completely unbothered so long as we're still going away. On reflection it may be more so we know that we were undercharged? So we aren't shocked when we're relegated back to a caravan in future?
