How important are first molars?

Posting for traffic as due to get my first bottom molar out this week (tooth number 6). My dentist doesn't seem overly concerned about the implications of having it out (although she did mention about other teeth moving etc) but I'm worried it won't be able to chew with it gone. Has anyone else had this tooth out and found it ok? Also how was the recovery? I am thinking about an implant but apparently the tooth above 'is on its last legs' and may need removed too. I could afford one implant but not two. All my other teeth are in fairly good condition but this has definitely been the kick up the arse I needed to be absolutely meticulous with my teeth from now on.

I had my first and security Nd removed and chewing is not easy. I'm waiting for implants to be done in January. I also have another tooth missing at the top but not a molar and having an implant. I'm having two implants. £1600 each. Which is incredibly cheap. But my dentist checked the clinic before I went. I need three but the dentist is going to make s slightly larger one to replace the two adjoining molars. There will be a slight gap but I will be able to eat!

Thanks so much for the reply @Woewoewoejoy. That's great you're getting the implants at that price . Im sure you'll be glad to be able to eat properly again. Do you mind me asking how you found the recovery of the lower molar extraction?

Absolutely fine. Just make sure you don't knock the blood clot otherwise you could end up with dry socket. Salt water rinces and don't brush that one with a toothbrush until it's healed. I was told implants are an option about 6 months after it's healed but it seems to vary with each dentist as I have had quotes with a few
