This is for anyone who sells large items or furniture online...

I've just started upcycling some pieces to sell on etsy and some other online platforms. AIBU to be shocked at how expensive UK delivery is to get my work to those who buy?! I've been quoted £130 for 2 bedside drawers.

If you sell on etsy or large bulky items, how do you get the posted? Do you include the cost of delivery in the price?

I'm sooooo confused with all of this as I am VERY new to it!

Thanks Daffodil

I stipulate buyer collect, which is awkward in Etsy because they don't offer that option, so I have to put a high shipping figure and explain in the text. Its not ideal and you do find that customers often don't actually read it. I do offer free delivery within x number of miles of my post code (the distance depends on the value of the item) and I deliver it myself. I also put a note saying that delivery further afield may be possible for an agreed fee and to get in touch to discuss it. If some one wants to me to deliver, I'll have a look at what it would cost me to do it and whether I'd be happy to travel that far and if I am, I'll charge the petrol plus some for my time. I have done some long distance deliveries myself because the profit margin on the item was enough to make it worth my while. If you're not keen on doing it yourself, you could try the Shiply website. You enter the details of your shipment and couriers who are going that way already with a load will bid to take yours as well. Its still pricey but cheaper than booking a courier direct. If you do use them, you will find that the bids will start off High and then begin to drop. Good luck!
