Help - snoring!

SoddingWeddings · 06/12/2020 11:00

I'm the snorer, not DH.

I've seen ENT who gave me an antibiotic cream for my nose, steroid drops abd a steroid spray and have a telephone follow up in 2wks because nothing is helping (delayed by 7mths due to Covid).

I've had a sleep apnoea test by the GP, and nothing to worry about apparently.

I use a prescription steroid nasal spray and saline sinus rinse daily.

I'm not drinking alcohol, so it's not that.

I've changed my pillows more times then I can count this year.

I wear a mouth guard for my teeth grinding (I'm dead sexy, me).

I use essential oils, steam, any bloody thing I can find to help reduce snoring.

Apparently I have perennial chronic rhinitis. We don't know the allergen. I hoover daily, regular changes of bedding etc.

We've just finished a kitchen refurb and the house is dusty as hell, so I suspect that's affecting me.

DH is at his wits end, and so am I - we're both exhausted ( me from being pushed umpteen times a night and being afraid to go back to sleep because I'm upsetting him, him because he can't sleep when I'm snoring).

The spare room is out of action due to rest of kitchen being in there.

AIBU? What bloody more can I do about the snoring?

Do they think it’s down to an allergy? You can be referred to the allergy clinic for testing and sounds like dust mites from what you have said. Maybe try some stronger antihistamines?

lockdownalli · 06/12/2020 11:16

Can one of you sleep on the sofa for a couple of nights, just so you can get some sleep?

Then when second bedroom is empty and restored, you need to make the change to separate rooms. You will wish you had done it ages before Flowers

SoddingWeddings · 06/12/2020 12:14

I take antihistamines every night, yes. They, as ever, are loathe to refer to a ln allergy clinic, so thank you - I'll push for that on the phone call.

DH took himself to the sofa at 2am last night, hence the post. He's a grumpy arse when he's tired, so I'm glad he's slept at least! He was in a huff, so wouldn't let me sleep downstairs.

We've only been married a few years, I'm a bit loathe to start separate rooms this early on!

Is the snoring new? Only started since the kitchen reno?

Are you overweight? Do you sleep on your back?

SoddingWeddings · 06/12/2020 12:29

No, not new - on and off for a few years. Only since I developed hayfever apparently. Comes and goes through worse periods and none.

I am overweight, but we're dieting (blown while we had no kitchen for ten days obv, but restarted this morning) and I've lost over a stone so far.

The snoring happens whatever position I sleep in apparently, often on my front.

DH is a horrific snorer, absolutely horrendous and because he's in bed before me by the time I get upstairs he's in such a deep sleep it's like sleeping next to a hippo! I use my AirPods with some relaxing hypnosis apps to help me fall asleep, then I'm usually ok. I ordered a cheap anti snoring ring off eBay too which believe it or not actually worked (acupuncture pressure point on your little finger) but DH didn't like it, could be worth a try?

Seasidegrandma · 06/12/2020 14:58

Could it be sleep apnoea? Do you wake yourself up with a snort? Has your husband noticed that you stop breathing momentarily during the night? Are you tired and sleepy during the day? That maybe something that could be investigated.

SoddingWeddings · 06/12/2020 15:26

I'll have a look for the ring, thank you - I'll try anything!

@Seasidegrandma thank you, but no - I've had an apnoea assessment (wore some sort of device overnight, and it was within norms, whatever that means!).
