Chicken and mushroom don't go together...

They don't! Both have a fairly bland flavour...unlike other combinations which work well such as eggs and bacon or vinegar on chips....chicken and mushroom should not be a thing.

Cream, tarragon, garlic Black pepper, maybe a bit of leek maybe a bit of white wine... upgrades chicken and mushroom to something pretty special!

Fruit and chocolate generally don’t work other than...

Strawberries 50% dipped in thick milk chocolate. Then allowed to cool. Sublime

But items not the chicken or the mushrooms you are actually tasting! It’s the garlic cream tarragon seasoning

Cooked properly and not boiled in their own excretions, mushrooms have a huge amount of umami flavour and add a lot to the depth/complexity of dishes. If you're talking about the little white button mushrooms YABU for thinking these are even an acceptable variant.

Mushroom risotto cooked well (not a creamy bland claggy attempt) is a thing of beauty

HaveeeeYouMetTed · 06/12/2020 10:28

YABU.

I made a homemade chicken & mushroom pie the other day. It was delicious & full of flavour 😋

OP, I think the problem is that you can't taste the mushrooms. To me, mushrooms have an intense earthy umami flavour and go with chicken well because they add flavour. Ditto with mushrooms on pizza or mushroom omelette etc.
I cannot taste broad beans, to me they have literally no flavour whatsoever. When DH describes them, it sounds like we're talking about two different things!

Chicken, mushroom and bacon risotto. So so good. Had it for dinner last night. Considering now whether to have it again for lunch

PaperMonster · 06/12/2020 10:39

I love chicken and mushroom together!

TroysMammy · 06/12/2020 10:41

My DP makes chicken, leek and mushroom lasagne which is delicious.

MrsGradyOldLady · 06/12/2020 10:45

You've made me really want chicken and mushroom in a creamy tarragon sauce now. Mmmm

Zilla1 · 06/12/2020 11:55

Hellothere, but the whole is more than the sum of the parts with flavours and texture from all the components (except no texture from salt).

PuffyChuff · 06/12/2020 12:01

@Hellotheresweet

It’s chicken and prawn combo that baffle me.
Whaaaat? Like a surf & turf thing?
emptydreamer · 06/12/2020 14:12

Just use mushrooms with flavour. Not farmed button / portobello, but porcini or chanterelles.

unchienandalusia · 06/12/2020 14:22

Sorry but if you think mushrooms are bland you are either buying or cooking them wrong.
Chicken and wild mushroom risotto is one of the best dishes in the world.
