To go on holiday?

I realise I will probably get flamed for this! But have just booked a holiday to the Canary Islands over NY.

Personally don't see that much of a problem if it's within the rules, but I know people won't like it! Got judged quite a bit for going to Greece in the summer. Why though?

Probably the global pandemic thing

I went to Lanzarote a few weeks ago. It was amazing. The best thing I've done all year. Took my parents too and it meant we could spend proper time together.

Sun, sea, beaches, pool, all inclusive- bliss.

Only regret is we only went for a week. Wished we'd booked a fortnight.

Have a wonderful holiday.

PinGwyn · 06/12/2020 01:00

You've booked it.

Not sure what asking MN is going to achieve? Hmm

Sparklesocks · 06/12/2020 01:03

If you feel comfortable and it’s all booked surely that’s all that matters?

Personally it’s too soon for me.

imamearcat · 06/12/2020 01:06

Just wonder about the judgement aspect. It's within the rules to go to the shops or a restaurant so no one gets their judgey pants on about that but there seems to be this thing about foreign travel.

I assume if the government didn't want people to travel abroad then it wouldn't be allowed and if places didn't want us there then they would not accept us.

Good for you @reginafelangee!

@imamearcat some people do judge people going to the shops or restaurants.

This pandemic has made people crazy and made it more acceptable than usual to be judgey.

You need to decide what is right for you and your family and then get on with it. No matter what you do though someone will be judging.

PinGwyn · 06/12/2020 01:18

What is with all the "judgey pants" talk tonight? We're not 5.

People are allowed to disagree with something just as you are allowed to book a holiday as it's within the rules.

I personally wouldn't be traveling abroad but I hate flying so that's not unusual 😂

Paperplain · 06/12/2020 01:51

The global pandemic may well be the reason.

noodlezoodle · 06/12/2020 02:46

I dunno, maybe because you risk spreading Covid between countries when it's completely unnecessary?

Sounds like you're not bothered about that and will do it anyway, just make sure you don't complain if the government announces a 2 week mandatory quarantine for people coming in from the Canaries while you're away.

BritWifeinUSA · 06/12/2020 04:17

We went to Mexico in September. I don’t normally do beach holidays where you don’t do much but it was just what we needed this year.

Enjoy your holiday!

GlowingOrb · 06/12/2020 05:30

I’ve got my judgey pants on for people going to shops and restaurants too. Just because something is within the rules doesn’t mean it’s not a massively selfish, inconsiderate action.
