The original secret garden film was favourite of mine as a child, watched many times.
I know alot of films rarely compare to the originals. I'm half way through and - I don't like it. It isn't a patch on the original. Did you like it, do you prefer the original?

I think one of the problems with redoing a well loved film from a classic book is that directors feel they have to stamp their own mark on it. This normally seems to mean changing the original book in some fairly major way, and often this means that the feel of the book/film that was so loved, has gone.

I’ve never seen the original so no basis for comparison.

Not a patch on the BBC series of many years ago.

I think they tried to keep within the themes but failed. Stellar casts can't revive a dead script.

I love the book and the 1993 film so I was excited to watch the new version. Disappointed was an understatement, it was absolutely rubbish!
