Why?? I was so excited to find out about Aldi finally doing groceries click and collect...until I tried to book a slot and it seems that they're charging £4.99 for slots to collect from inside the store..

Because their profit margins are so low they can't absorb the cost for a member of staff to pick your order.

They are cheap for a reason!

positivity123 · 05/12/2020 16:34

YABU. If you don't want to pay for someone to walk around and pick your shopping then don't.

ThatDamnScientist · 05/12/2020 16:35

No different than any other supermarket though? They all charge for click and collect for groceries. The shop itself is still cheaper.

Ajahd · 05/12/2020 16:35

They still need to pay someone to pick and pack your shopping, someone to develop the technology, promote the advertising amongst other things. They may need to hire more staff as a result. They will incur costs as a result of offering this service, which are then passed onto the consumer

Thesearmsofmine · 05/12/2020 16:36

Because you are paying for someone to go round the shop and pick your shopping ready for you to collect. It’s a service.

AuntieDolly · 05/12/2020 16:36

£5 for someone else to do my shopping? Bargain!

SionnachRua · 05/12/2020 16:36

Well it's additional work for them isn't it? They have to assign a staff member to go gather your things. If you don't like it you are free to not use it and do the shop yourself.

vanillandhoney · 05/12/2020 16:36

YABU. £4.99 to get your groceries picked and bagged for you is pretty good going imo.

Other supermarkets do it cheaper because they charge higher prices. ALDI is cheap so services like this have to be charged at a premium so they don't make a loss.

PolytheneHam · 05/12/2020 16:38

I used their click and click service when I had covid - my friend collected on my behalf.

Even with the collection charge, it still worked out cheaper than any other options open to us in isolation.

I was more annoyed that I couldn't edit the order once I'd placed it. I did the order in a hurry thinking I'd be able to add bits as I thought of them. Nope.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/12/2020 16:39

They are charging you £4.99 so they can properly resource it - they will have a staff member whose job it is to pick and pack your shopping, rather than doing it on the cheap and having staff trying to squeeze in doing your shopping with everything else they have to do.

TicTacTwo · 05/12/2020 16:40

Yabu
That's a reasonable price for a supermarket shopping slot - it's certainly comparable to the others

Snackasaurus · 05/12/2020 16:40

Don't like it, don't pay it.

TW2013 · 05/12/2020 16:42

But think of all the savings from not buying a canoe, tent and an egg chair. Not being able to edit is a pain though.

NailsNeedDoing · 05/12/2020 16:42

Yabu. Less than a fiver is a reasonable amount to pay for someone else to do your shopping for you.

SuperbGorgonzola · 05/12/2020 16:44

Asda is free click and collect here. It's about £2.50 for delivery if you're quick with your booking too.
MaggieFS · 05/12/2020 16:44

What annoys you? The fact they're charging anything or that it's £4.99?

CeibaTree · 05/12/2020 16:44

OP is you want a service you have to pay for it, I'm not sure why you are annoyed about this.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 05/12/2020 16:46

YABU - but I'm glad I know they do it Grin

BecomeStronger · 05/12/2020 16:46

How long does it take you to do your shop? What does £4.99 work out as an hourly rate? Seems that it's likely very reasonable to me, but if you don't want to pay it, don't.

ilovesooty · 05/12/2020 16:46

They operate in a way that means it's extra cost to them to assign a picker to a keenly priced order. If you don't like it, do your own shopping.

BecomeStronger · 05/12/2020 16:47

It's not "free", you're paying for it somewhere.

PurpleMustang · 05/12/2020 16:52

What do you disagree with? That they charge anything or the amount?
How 'much' is your time worth, if you worked it out to do it yourself? Which is cheaper and go with that

arethereanyleftatall · 05/12/2020 16:56

Are you seriously wondering why a business would charge you for a service they offer which you can choose to use or not use?

Iwantacookie · 05/12/2020 16:57

I was going to say yabu until I read a pp said they couldnt edit their order. For £5 ide expect to be able to amend my order up to the night before same as other supermarkets.

texelgirl · 05/12/2020 17:00

What do you think the packing staff are worth paying ?
