To just cancel Christmas

Lighthearted..
My DD is almost 2 so I stuck the tree up last week for her to experience. Since putting it (along with a small 1ft one for her) up she’s not wanted to leave it alone, absolutely in love with all things “tree”.
Anytime I leave the livingroom for more than 2 minutes every bauble in her reach is taken off and sat on her wee table while the wee madam gleefully shouts “I broke it” at me on my return. Then while I put them back on she will be taking the small baubles off her little tree and adding them to the big one besides me.

She’s yet to get bored of this and I’m fed up of redecorating the tree twice a day. It’s harmless and she’s enjoying herself but completely ignoring the no don’t touch.

I don’t think I can make it another 3 weeks I might need to put it back in storage till Christmas Eve.

It just might be time to call an end to Christmas for now Xmas Envy (me being the grinch not envy)

Just let her get on with it. If she takes them leave them off, leave them off. She'll probably have a lovely few weeks swapping them round every day.

God this brings back memories Grin

Let her crack on, make putting them back on a game. Seriously, just resign yourself to having a badly decorated tree for a few years and save yourself the stress! She'll do it regardless.

My dd did similar at that age. She took all the baubles off and hung them on every cupboard and door handle she could find. I just left her to it as she wasn't doing any harm. After the first week or so she started putting them all back on again before bedtime.

Why is it so important for her not to touch? That seems a bit unrealistic at age 2.

WeeMadam · 05/12/2020 14:45

I totally would but she’s starting to rip the strings off the baubles as she’s a bit rough and the cat keeps running away with them. I then have a case of catch the cat to avoid them eating it in my hands

Yeah, what PP said - encourage her to rearrange them rather than taking them off. She’s probably enjoying the game because it is interactive with you, a call and response (baubles off the tree/baubles hung back up). Try not to get cross with her. It’s a maddening age but you’ll look back on this stage fondly when she’s a hormonal teen. Grin

We are just about to put the tree up and let our mad kitten have at it overnight before we even bother trying to decorate it. We are guaranteed mayhem. Just thank your lucky stars that your tiny human can’t climb and can only reach the baubles at the bottom.

ReggaetonLente · 05/12/2020 14:46

We got a felt one this year. DD also 2. The 'baubles' stick on with velcro and i just let her go at it all day.

From Amazon.

MoiraNotRuby · 05/12/2020 14:46

Our baubles are the old fashioned glass sort, very delicate. When the children were tiny we put the tree in a playpen so they couldn't touch. Just made life easier!

Do whatever you need, for the least stress/battle.

WeeMadam · 05/12/2020 14:47

@ReggaetonLente that sounds like a fantastic idea, off to Amazon I pop now!

This is why, when mine were little, I bought a teeny tiny tree and put it up on a high shelf! We still have that tree as well. It wasn't until they were 4+ and could understand the "don't touch" instruction that we got a bigger one that we can stand on the small table in the room.

My tree found itself laid out on the floor 3 times yesterday. By the final time I left it as a climbing frame for my dd (2 in 3 weeks) my baubles have long since disappeared. Unfortunately I have 6f tree but an extremely tall one year old who managed to reach at least 3/4s of the tree, and took the remaining off when she pulled it onto floor.
It's annoying, but once you resign yourself to it you'll be okay hahaha.
