To ask do you actually have to eat a meal

Am so fed up of being indoors that I fancy doing a dog walk and having a glass of wine in the pub tomorrow.

However I’ve seen posts on Facebook etc that you basically have to have a meal to be able go to a pub.

Is this the case? I don’t really want to eat out at the pub, rather just stop for half an hour and have a drink.

Tier 3 here but we drove 5 miles north to tier 2 last night for a pub meal (yes I know it's not allowed - shoot me). We had our table allocated for 90 mins and then had to leave. Was still nice to get out though. Bloody sick of having my life dictated by the government.

Surely the logic is that the fact you have to pay for a meal might stop people going out to a pub at all? It’s discouraging it if you just wanted a pint - so less people will be going out ??

2 Pubs near us one each end of the road, their rules are as follows:

Pub 1 -
Questioned why you can’t wear a mask, if they feel the reason is good enough then entry allowed.
New menu, no starters/sides are listed as that’s not a meal only mains and desserts.
VERY limited menu
All prices have gone up! All meals are between £12- £19. Desserts are from £5.40 each! A sharing dessert is £18!
Staff are rude and think they are doing you a favour to actually serve you.
All food is literally as quick as can be 5-10 minutes maximum wait.
As soon as a meal is finished you have 5 minutes to vacate your table!

Pub 2 -
Asked if you can wear a mask, if you say you are exempt they except it no questions asked.
Their food starts from £1...yes £1! They have a small pizza for £2, bowl of chips £1.50 etc a sandwich with chips £3.
The staff don’t rush to get the food out and don’t rush you when you are finished.
All staff are polite and thank you for your custom.

Guess what pub is full and what pub is empty Grin

One of these pubs as also had to close in July due to a staff member having covid! Wink

This is genius, and ensured the 'drinking pub' could continue trading.

The jist of the rule is that Wetherspoons are OK which as their owner is a Brexit cheerleader is possibly why this was chosen.

Yes @RizzleDrizzle I’ll buy a burger and chips then spend 45 minutes on the bus. I bet it will taste really nice by the time I get home 😋

RizzleDrizzle · 05/12/2020 21:34

@Nomnomarrgh here’s a thing it still isn’t your only choice!

In fact you shouldn’t be on the bus to get your burger, if your burger is 45 minutes away and you need to use public transport the point is you shouldn’t be getting a burger AT ALL, you shouldn’t be on the bus you shouldn’t be walking around eating it on the move

Stay at home, reduce contact!

It’s not go on a 45 minute bus journey eat a take away. Especially not in Tier 3!

Stay at home eat food from your own table!
No indigestion, no walking around eating your cheap takeaway, no mixing with other people no contracting COVID excellent!

Wetherspoons are OK presumably as they do do substantial meals.
I'm not a "Brexit Cheerleader" (I voted Remain) not sure how Brexit has anything to do with it.
Go to Wetherspoons, have a few drinks, can easily get food there.
