My Dd is desperate to have her friend over tomorrow. Nobody seems to be taking notice of any of the rules and there are sleepovers going on and teenagers in and out of each others houses. I have put my foot down and said no as is against the rules so I suggested that they go for a pizza instead not realising that this isnt allowed either. We are a tier 2 area and I thought (ok I should have checked) that this was allowed but only family groups or bubbles allowed. She hasnt been out for months with anyone because we usually follow the rules hut no one else seems to. It is partly my fault as I suggested it. AIBU to just let her go and forget the rules for 2 hours???

‘She hasnt been out for months’

You do realise this is the same For EVERYONE!

These sorts of questions highlight just how stupid the lockdowns are. You know it's stupid when your kids ask and you have to explain the covid rules to them.

They then ask why it's considered dangerous to public health/safety to spend time with one person when they've legally spent all day with hundreds of other children not distancing or wearing masks.

It's insanity but they need to know the rules Biscuit

Did you really not know you can't mix households inside in tier 2? I can't understand how you didn't know this, but now you do know you definitely shouldn't be encouraging them to do it or, as one pp suggested, say they're sisters.

I don't know how I didn't know. I knew they couldn't meet in private homes but thought you were allowed up to 6 in hospitality but that you had to have a meal!!! The rules are so confusing and ever changing!!

Trouble is isn't the same for everyone certainly not for teens round here they just seem to all meet up regardless at peoples houses, and parties. Both my kids are usually usually stickler for rules but my DD finds it very very hard missing out when no one else seems to be!!!! She has just shown me 2 insta lives of a party and a sleepover lots of gloating going on from those at the parties towards those who are not "allowed" out!!! I think I will suggest a lunchtime take out pizza on a park bench!!!

Yes you can, assuming you're in England in Tier 2 that is?
No mixing inside but can mix up to 6 outdoors.

From the Government websire

you must not socialise in a group of more than 6 people outside, including in a garden or a public space – this is called the ‘rule of 6’

Sorry, just realised who I quoted was referring to inside!
NO you can't inside but you can outside.

That's not true. I'd have lost my mind never going out...

Same, when we came out of lockdown in summer went out a few times for a meal (which you were allowed to do) and also to the pub a couple of times.
Not everyone hasn't been out at all.

borntohula · 05/12/2020 00:26

Also if it's suddenly safe to socialise indoors with two other households for 5 days over Christmas (how generous, thank you Covid), the rules can go fuck themselves tbh.

Yep, same, plus I was working. People can live their lives indoors if they wish. Why they think everyone wants to do the same is beyond me.
