Any marriage counsellors out there who tell me AIBU to think I can earn a ‘very good’ wage working from home doing marriage counselling? Also any ideas what people generally expect to pay for an hour session. Thumb sucks I know there will influencing factors

What qualifications do you hold?

£50 for a counselling hour is pretty normal. Out of that you have to pay for Supervision, ongoing CPD, insurance, etc.

Obviously your training to become a counsellor will have cost you many thousands of £ to get to that stage.

I studied Social Work (not in the UK) and then worked for a company probably like Relate for a few years getting practical experience. Since then I’ve had my own practice (10 years). I do marriage/couple counselling? How would these qualifications and experience stand up in UK? Thank you all so much for your replies

Anyone can set themselves up as a Counsellor in the UK without any qualifications as it's not a protected term. But clients who know anything about counselling will expect you to be at least registered and either accredited or working towards accreditation with a recognised counselling body (i e. BACP, NCS, UKCP), as will the NHS.

Qualifying as a counsellor in the UK means at absolute minimum a Level 4 Diploma.

Thanks jg I will look into that. I’m not sure what a level diploma 4 is, I have a Social work (honours) degree 4 years
