Central heating makes me feel sick

Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

I only have my heating on 17 degrees but the heat from a radiator makes me feel faint, nauseous and flushed, completely zapped of my energy. I've always had this problem. As soon as I open a window and feel the cool air I immediately feel better and my energy is restored

So in the Winter it's impossible to regulate my temperature inside

My thermostat is at 18, but I only put on the central heating for an hour morning and evening to take the chill off (the boiler will come on if the temp drops so the pipes don't freeze)

I have jumpers and my cats have fur. I often have the windows open during the day -and always have my bedroom window open

But on the off chance, do you have a carbon monoxide detector? Best to be safe

Have you cleaned your radiators? If you don’t clean them, they will give off dust clouds when the heat is on and an allergy to dust can make you feel faint, dizzy, nauseous.

Is your heating drying the air out too much or maybe too moist which can both feel suffocating.

I feel similar if the indoor air is lacking in humidity because it dries my sinuses out and that gives me funny turns.

Get a digital hygrometer, a cheap way to keep an eye on humidity levels.

I did a bit of research a couple of years back and found out all sorts of weird symptoms are linked to either too high or too low humidity.

I now have a dehumidifier, a hygrometer and some water holding humidifying bits and pieces to keep the relative humidity around 40.
