Husband and "ironing" his shirts with the shower 🙄

Instead of getting out the ironing board and iron (which lives in our bedroom), he hangs his shirt up in the shower and leaves the shower running for 10 minutes while he makes coffee. Then turns it off and has his coffee. Shower back on to actually have a shower. This annoys the shit out of me. It seems lazy and completely energy inefficient. He has also flooded the bathroom several times when the plug has not been draining well. And no, it does not make for a crisply ironed shirt but he doesn't give a shit about that either! Aibu?

Heh, yeah he could be in the shower at the same time, that's what I have done.

It's not quite as good at getting creases out as hanging tops above the kettle for a minute of so, with the lid off to continue the boil. Then you get a cup of tea / coffee too, which is very efficient multitasking.

(But you have to be careful how you hang them as I got water damage on an upper kitchen cabinet after a period of doing this.)

However if he uses a coffee machine this probably won't work.

Thant's the dumbest thing I've ever heard Grin

Balaur · 04/12/2020 14:26

Yes, why doesn't he hang it up while he's in the shower - I've asked him and there's no obvious answer. Our shower is a strange configuration and small and I can see it would get wet where he hangs it, so maybe that's why.

I agree that it's not cool and not funny. Like I say, it annoys the shit out of me. Every so often I have a go at him about it and he desists but then it starts creeping in again.

The person who asked about the flooding - it just needs degunking every so often, it's a badly designed small plughole. And yes, we ARE on a water meter Angry

@Janegrey333

Anybody suggested LTB yet?😝
I've had a "I'd divorce him" but not sure if it was serious or not! (I'm not planning to btw). Neither am I going to start ironing his shirts for him.1

Very lazy and annoying wasting energy while causing a flood.

Coldemort · 04/12/2020 14:32

I do this Blush

Justbrutallyhonest · 04/12/2020 14:42

Just buy non iron shirts, hang up still slightly damp out of the washer, they are fine, to be honest by time you’ve got to work, you top half has pulled out any slight remaining creases and the bit in your trousers is creased to f**k anyway

motorcyclenumptiness · 04/12/2020 14:42

YABU - he's using time saved not ironing, which is a joyless waste of energy and opposable thumbs, to make coffee, which is awesome. The man's a genius!

tappingintherain · 04/12/2020 14:49

Is "Why doesn't he do it while in the shower" another form of 'Cancel the cheque'? Grin

DdraigGoch · 04/12/2020 14:59

I'd cut off the power to the boiler when he goes for his shower. He can have one hot shower per day, if he wants to shower separately to his shirt then he can have a cold one.

midnightstar66 · 04/12/2020 15:04

I do do this but only when I'm actually in the shower. If that makes me lazy I'm willing to own it Grin

FippertyGibbett · 04/12/2020 15:06

Such a waste of water and energy. Id be furious about it.

Balaur · 04/12/2020 15:19

Has he said why he doesn't hang his shirt in there while he's actually having his shower?

Rainallnight · 04/12/2020 15:27

I do this sometimes. I hate ironing.

xmaselves · 04/12/2020 15:29

Xmas stocking recommendation: Lenor Crease Release
Just be careful where he sprays it , takes creases out in minutes without ironing but leaves carpets / flooring really slippery..... we use it over the bed

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 04/12/2020 15:32

He needs to start getting in the shower with his shirt 🤨

TikTokFinger · 04/12/2020 15:35

I’m on a water meter and i hate waste, I even make my family switch off the tap when they’re brushing their teeth. And lights when they leave the room.
That said I actually do send shirts off to the dry cleaning because I don’t like ironing either. So I’m a bag of contradictions really.

midnightstar66 · 04/12/2020 15:47

@xmaselves I discovered the hard way, I sprayed the clothes hanging on the shower rail for a double whammy of lazy crease eradication. Lino bathroom floor was VERY slippy when exiting the shower 🐱

GabsAlot · 04/12/2020 15:49

so hes basically running two showers for himself per day (or more)

tel hm to stop fucking wasting money

NurseButtercup · 04/12/2020 15:56

I'd suggest a hand held steam iron is a perfect Xmas gift for your DH.

MumsDirtyTeaTowel · 04/12/2020 16:13

Isn't there a trouser press but for shirts? FFS

NiceGerbil · 04/12/2020 16:19

I think he needs a steam thingy as an Xmas present as well

Fucks sake

I've never even heard of this before. Wasteful lazy tosser

stovetopespresso · 04/12/2020 16:32

why don't you iron his shirts for him op? Grin (ducks quickly)
