To turn down an NHS job

I have been looking for a job for a few months now after a period of being a SAHM. I now have the option of 3 jobs and am undecided which direction to go....

Job 1 NHS clerical role, permanent, 16 hrs 5-9pm.

Job 2 Private company, full time, working from office, temporary till end March at least, job what I have done previously and would be good to get me back into working life

Job 3 Private company, closer to home, working from home initially, 12 month fixed term contract, new opportunity/area with full training which is tempting to have another thing on my c.v.

The money is not a huge issue or much different between the 3 roles. The things swaying me are

  • working when kids at school Vs working at night
  • I don't have a pension, is NHS pension worth taking that job
  • opportunities within NHS, good organisation to have foot in the door?

Thoughts anyone? Help!

I'd go for job 3 for the new opportunity. However, what kind of jobs are 2 and 3 if they only pay the same as a 16-hour per week NHS clerical job?

I wouldn't take a clerical job in the NHS. Doing the same old basic job every day in the same way in a bureaucratic organisation with no say over how I do my job isn't for me.

It's roughly the same basic rate per hour and the salary isn't really an issue - any salary will be more than what I'm getting now (zero!) and would be extra money in the pot but I don't 'need' full time salary to cover bills.

I would take a permanent role over a temporary contract especially with the NHS. Can’t comment on the pension as I don’t know too much about those.
The pros and cons of working evening vs daytime when kids are in school very much depend on your home circumstance. Will you still get time as a family at weekends? Do you have regular childcare in evening? I moved from evening/late shifts to daytimes so that we had more time as a family.

Working Mon-Thu in NHS role so I would miss dinner, homework, bath and bedtime but around over the weekend. Childcare not an issue as husband works shifts and will be available to fill in for all 3 jobs with my mum helping out the rest of the time.

I wanted part time initially which makes me think NHS the sensible choice, still do school run and still have time to myself when kids at school, available for school holidays plus it's permanent but job 3 sounds more exciting! And more money and working when kids at school anyway but then dealing with school holidays.
