To be worrying about heavy period? (Tmi)

CardoMondo · 02/12/2020 07:15

I don’t get heavy periods, I’m usually for for 3 days max and only need sanitary products for the first two days.
Sunday night I came on. Nothing usual. Used a tampon and went to bed at 11. Woke up at 6 wet through. Went to toilet, removed tampon and suddenly gushed out a puddle of blood that hit the floor with such force that it splashed up the wall. I was trying to clean that up when it happened again. The bathroom looked like a murder scene. I got a quick bath and put a fresh tampon in. This was 6:30am. By 7.30 I had blood down my legs again. Had to go to work. Long story short this continued all day, changing hourly and getting in a mess.
Last night I put a fresh tampon in at 9:45. 11pm I was covered in blood again, all down my legs. Fresh tampon before bed. Woke up at 5am lying in a pool of my own blood.
I have pain all over, my feet and legs especially but also my arms, shoulders, fingers, back etc ... not terrible pain but tingling stabby pains in so many places that it feels worse.
I’m supposed to be at work today. Impossible to get a gp appointment at the minute. Passing clots and stringy thick blood. DH has had a vasectomy so no chance of pregnancy/miscarriage.

This is so unusual for me I’m panicking like hell. I’m 39. AIbU to be worrying? DH thinks so as his ex had endometriosis and said this is nothing compared to what hers were like which is all well and good but this is UNUSUAL for me which is why I’m worrying. Why are my feet hurting so much??!

Call 111 failing that go to a & e . Do not go to work , this could be something serious .
Send Dh out for some maternity pads in the mean time and stay off your feet.
How old are you?

KTD27 · 02/12/2020 07:18

Not unusual to be worried AT ALL. If you can’t see a GP can you call 111? I’d be getting some medical attention today if I were you.

Haggisfish · 02/12/2020 07:20

Go to a and e-that’s a lot of blood loss.

notsubscribed · 02/12/2020 07:20

@Dontforgetyourbrolly says in the OP she is 39. Ignore your DP and speak to 111

ComDummings · 02/12/2020 07:23

Yes if this isn’t normal for you please call 111 straight away, if no luck then A&E

bearlyactive · 02/12/2020 07:25

Definitely call 111, if this is not normal for you then there's something very wrong with that amount of blood loss.

CardoMondo · 02/12/2020 07:29

Thank you, I’ve called 111 and they have arranged a telephone appointment with the GP

Call for help. DH's ex's experience is irrelevant and unhelpful. In the meantime, if you could maybe use a heavy duty pad and layer some towels over your sheets so that you can keep resting that would possibly provide a little relief. It might alleviate the stress and hassle of having to repeatedly get up, change, and clean up until you can be seen by a care provider.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 02/12/2020 07:55

Sorry , I missed that. Its early!
I've heard of periods going haywire during menopause but op you are a but young for this

Girlintheframe · 02/12/2020 07:59

My periods became like this late 30s. Was perimenopause. Ended up using the very thick Tena pads and even then changing very frequently.
Went back to normal when I started HRT.

Haggisfish · 02/12/2020 17:32

How are you op?

PinkArt · 02/12/2020 17:53

This is just anecdotal, but very similar to one I had just after turning 40 and having spoken to friends about it since, several people have had similar at around the same age. It may be perimenopause and flooding is worth reading up on as I had no idea this was a thing at this stage (I think I'd assume they would just quietly peter out until they stopped).

DBML · 02/12/2020 17:53

Hope you’re ok op!

I had similar a few months ago. Came on in work with such sudden force, blood went through my undies; tights; body; skirt and cardigan, leaving a pool on the chair.
I went incredibly light headed. I felt so poorly.
You know when somethings not right op, so trust yourself and hope you’ve managed to get some help.

Candycanestripes · 02/12/2020 18:11

How are you now op?

Cailleach · 02/12/2020 18:17

I had similar recently and ended up in A&E - ended up having one ovary removed and a 10cm cyst taken off the other.

Go to A&E is my advice.

Cailleach · 02/12/2020 18:20

PS emphasise those odd pains when you do go - I had similar stabbing pains in my pelvis, legs, back and feet.

jess3817 · 02/12/2020 18:33

Hope you're okay op

CardoMondo · 02/12/2020 23:00

I saw the Gp at lunch time who didn’t seem concerned ... she’s taken a urine sample (which ended up like a blood sample!!) and has booked me in for bloods on Friday.
The pains in my legs are worse but the bleeding is finally slowing down a bit. Still much heavier than usual though.

Get yourself some Tena pants just in case it happens again, they are bomb proof & can cope with me losing a full bladder so a heavy period will be easy. Has your GP prescribed transcemic acid tablets or Norethisterone? Next month start taking Ibuprofen 48 hours before your period is due.
