To think my baby's legs aren't that fat, or are they?

I've just bought some wellies for my 12 month old. His legs don't really fit in them if he has trousers on. He is a bit of chunk but I sort of thought most babies had chubby legs. But perhaps they don't. So do I just have an obese baby or do others have these issues too? I guess it's another trip to Clarks for me!

He's got quite small feet for his age so maybe due to them being intended for a younger baby? (or maybe my DD just has massive feet by comparison, I have no idea?!) My DD was size 5 at that age and just gone up to a 6 now at 14m.

It will depend on walking as well I think, my DDs been walking since 9m and her legs have slimmed right down as a result. I was so sad to lose the chunky legs. She's very much toddler frame instead of baby now!

Another one hoping for a chunky baby leg photo! So cute.

My son was a right chunk, he is now 6ft 4 and pretty slim. I agree with others that they need a bit of stored weight in case of illness and will slim down when older.

Don't know about the wellies though!

Aah I love the baby chub!!

My little was completely the opposite which I was actually quite sad about ha! Her legs have always been so skinny that wellies just fall straight off, we have to layer up with extra socks and trousers.

They are people in all shapes and sizes just as us adults are, don't worry!

My boys deliciously chubby legs 😍

BogRollBOGOF · 02/12/2020 09:46

I have the same problem Grin
Just a short, muscular runner with solid calves and tiny feet that are incompatible with welly sizing.

I tried to buy DS1 wellies when he got walking as it was an appallingly soggy summer. He needed size 2 and I ended up having to pay silly money for designer ones. (Then DS2 never needed them that small) he was 2 before he grew into the size 4s where the likes of Clarkes srarted their sizing for walkers.

My daughter is quite slim, and 2.5 years old. Got her the Decathlon wellies, and she can walk fine but she can kick them off easily when sitting down, which she finds super amusing...I was thinking how huge wellies for kids are...oh well.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 02/12/2020 19:06

Wellies are usually a style more suited to an older toddler (who wont have the very chunky legs of a baby) because they are dreadful for the feet of a young walker of 12m old, your baby does not need wellies.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 02/12/2020 19:08

Mmsnet101 your child has feet quite a bit bigger than average. My 15m old was v tall with bigger than average feet and wore a 5.

Op, you can't tease us with chubby, baby legs and not post a pic !!!

Ownerofmultiplechimps · 02/12/2020 20:23

Fabulous @SendHelp30.

Both mine had the chunk, ds2 still has lovely meaty thighs now!

Wrenna · 02/12/2020 20:25

Oh they are adorable!

Skysblue · 02/12/2020 20:26

Chubby legs are normal, it’s to do with how they grow. My son’s thighs were bigger age one than at age six.

GrumpyHoonMain · 02/12/2020 20:32

Size 4 feet seems quite small for his age so it’s probably just that. My DS is 12 months now and only on the 25th weight centile & is the skinniest thing ever but even he struggles with some fits and cuts. Kids clothes have such a huge range.

OverpaidT · 02/12/2020 20:43

I'm so sorry for the lack of baby legs picture. They are so squeezable albeit a tad sore today. I'm not quite sure how to crop his face out. I'll have a look though and attach if I work it out. Is size 4 small for 12 months?

Oooo chubby baby legs! How delicious.

ladycarlotta · 02/12/2020 20:59

I think a size four is on the bigger end of the normal range for that age. My 21-month-old is around the 20th percentile in general, and recently measured as a 4.5, although she does wear some size 5s.

HarrietPotterska · 03/12/2020 12:07

Oh I thought I'd get a munchie baby leg photo! I just want to eat them all!
