Hairdresser works in husbands salon but also is a mobile hairdresser one and a half days a week. Mobile appointment was arranged for 3rd December back in October.
Due to the current situation hairdresser has messaged client on 1st of December to say that she cannot make the appointment anymore as she will now have to work in the salon. She has given an alternative date the next week.

Client has sent hairdresser a message to say this is unacceptable and that the alternative appointment which is in the middle of the day she cannot make and that the hairdresser should’ve given her more notice.

Hairdresser says that the business is her priority.

Client says she cannot make alternative date at all.

Hairdresser says she has no availability at all now before Christmas

If the Hairdresser is be unreasonable please vote YABU

If client is bU please vote YANBU

I wouldn't be using that hair dresser again if I was the client

Lockdown has been going on for weeks. The hairdresser knew when it would end. I have sympathy with needing to be in the salon but there should have been more notice and she should have gone out of her way to get a convenient alternative in a reasonable time frame.

The hairdresser has let the client down badly. The hairdresser should have told her DH she couldn’t work in the salon that day as she has pre-booked appointments elsewhere.

There's no one simple answer, at the moment loads of us are trying to make the best of a shit situation, too much to take into account for a black and white answer

Both sides need to actually have a conversation to work out the best compromise solution.

The hairdresser accepted that appointment ages ago. Unreasonable to mess the client about.

hairdresser should have asked client to come to salon as a compromise. If client is not mobile or has special reason why they can't then an alternative date should have been offered at a similar time. Hairdresser obviously is prioritising salon which is fine but she will lose customers and good will by not trying to find a compromise.

Hairdresser has let down a prearranged client. Wrong on so many levels.

Hairdresser has been pretty poor.

If I was client, I would be looking elsewhere.

Why should the client grovel? Have I miss something, the client's done nothing wrong. Confused

It is incredibly unprofessional of the hairdresser to cancel an appointment at such short notice and not to make an effort to arrange a time suitable for the client.

the hairdresser should have honored her appointment or made arrangement to suit the client, even if it meant working late or on a Sunday etc (plus offered a discount for the botheration). I'm not a hairdresser but similar field

Hairdresser. Massively.

DW's hairdresser came back from hols to squeeze in long term clients when lockdown was announced. If you are going to charge a lot of money for a service you really do need to provide good service.

I would think the HD doesn’t value this particular client.

In fairness the HD has explicitly stated that. You'd be mad to want to use them again.

I would be furious if my hairdresser did this.

What a shitty way to treat someone.

Client should have appointment at hairdresser's salon.

Why are you being so difficult over a haircut? She's got to run a business which has been massively impacted over the last year and all you can think to do is be rude because she changed your appointment??

Find another hairdresser. I'm sure you'll be doing her a favour.

she will now have to work in the salon

Did your husband tell her she has to work in the salon on this day?

Hairdresser was unorganised and should have thought about this before now if the salon was the priority. If something has come up at the salon last minute then unfortunately it should be the salons client that should be let down. The hairdresser should keep the appointment she made if she’s able to work and isn’t ill or isolating or something.

?It is a haircut, not brain surgery. Hardly one of life's essentials.

Though I guess you are probably the hairdresser, as you know more about the hairdresser's working pattern than the client's reasons for not being able to do the rearranged date.

Hairdresser is BU but given the shittiness of things this year for businesses like hairdressers it’s kind of understandable though it is shit

She definitely should have given more notice and be more helpful about rearranging the appointment

Did your husband tell her she has to work in the salon on this day?

If you read op it says hairdresser has to work in husbands salon.
So, the hairdressers husband owns a salon? Or the op’s husband owns a salon?
I think the op is the dropped client and the the hairdresser has gone to work in her own husbands salon as Hairdresser says that the business is her priority.

Everyone is stressed but changing appointments booked so far in advance is never going to go down well

Report
Longpinknails · 01/12/2020 19:57

YABU, I think the client should have been given more notice, especially as they booked this in October. As there’s no other availability for them too, it’s left them in an unfortunate position.

That's a shitty way to treat a regular customer, I would find someone new. She's probably been looking forward to that appointment.
