To be scared

I woke up with a headache on my right side of my face behind my eye. I rarely wake up with a headache. I was then very sick. I'm never sick. I know morning headaches and sickness are a sign of a brain tumour and I'm terrified. I know it's just the once but I have mild health anxiety and am going through a stressful time. I can't stop shaking and I'm sure it's anxiety. Any health professionals out there? Can anyone help calm me down?

Sounds like a migraine to me

bestsquirrelinthewholehole · 01/12/2020 07:03

Yeah as pp said, I actually get the same symptoms with migraine. For me it can last up to a week. It can be horrendous pain, pressure and vomiting.

DivGirl · 01/12/2020 07:03

Brain tumours almost never have a headache as the first symptom.

You have a headache. Take some paracetamol, drink some water, speak to your GP about your anxiety.

Medaevalmiss · 01/12/2020 07:15

I get pain behind my eye when I'm stressed and grit my teeth in my sleep. I wasn't aware I did it but my dentist pointed out tooth damage and checked for sensitivity at the tmj joint. A nighttime mouth guard has sorted me out.
As pps said, the vomiting suggests migraine, which I also suffered from, mainly hormonal ones, which have eased as I've aged (one benefit of getting older!) but also when I'm stressed.
Hope you feel better soon.

I have the same symptoms when I get a migraine - stress can be a trigger for them..

christmaspigeon · 01/12/2020 07:31

Thank you everyone for helping calm me down. It's pressure on my right eye and my jaw aches too so maybe I am grinding my teeth! I've not had a migraine before so hopefully it's that. Thank you

@christmaspigeon if it happens again I would really recommend a visit to the dentist to discuss it. Also read up on bruxism, which is the official term for for tooth grinding and clenching. I believe it's a side effect of some anti depressants (in case that's relevant) There is an intricate network of nerves around the face and jaw, so the pain can manifest itself in odd seeming places. For me it's a sharp, extreme pain either behind my eye or above the temple. I described it as head pain not head ache if that makes any sense.
I'm glad you feel calmer and I hope that rest, painkillers and water have helped.

Holliej · 01/12/2020 09:21

I get this but over the left eye. Makes my ears, jaw and throat sore too sometimes. Also get flashing lights for 10-15 mins (called a aura migrane - only usually when horrifically tired). Lots of rest and water. I find tiger balm helps rubbed into my temples and a cold flannel over my head. And of course pain killers. X

As someone who lives with a man who has several brain tumours, YABVU.
What a conclusion to jump to.

SoddingWeddings · 01/12/2020 09:30

I have up to 27 migraines a month.... Sounds like a classic migraine to me.

Lots of cold drinks, stay in the dark, wear sunglasses indoors if you need them, and if you can keep things down, 900mg dose of aspirin is recommended for migraine.

christmaspigeon · 01/12/2020 09:37

Thank you everyone. @Medaevalmiss yes, it did feel like head pain rather than a headache. Migraine or teeth grinding is probably the answer. It felt like nothing I've experienced before and, with my health anxiety, it did really frighten me. I've had a very stressful time recently which could explain either. It's easing now thankfully. Thanks again for your reassurance x

I woke up last week with an absolutely banging headache and wondered why? Then I remembered that before I fell asleep that night I felt thirsty but had been too exhausted to go downstairs and get a drink, so obviously by the morning I was dehydrated...I now make a conscious effort to drink more in the day.

Could that be it?

sapnupuas · 01/12/2020 09:54

Exactly like my migraines.

Also, I don't think that's where you feel a tumour headache. I once had to call 111 after a migraine lasted four days and I was desperate. My doctor wasn't overly concerned due to where the pain was, apparently.

Someone with far more knowledge will be able to confirm or dispute, hopefully.

Hope you feel better. They're hell. I have "poorly peas" in my freezer as the only thing that helps is something cold.

I get migraines like this in the morning if I slept badly on my neck. Water and stretches should help hopefully.
