To think in my 50s I'd be slowing down?

DH and I are early 50s. Two DCs, both at uni with PT jobs, so having to top up their living expenses.
I honestly thought by the time I was in my 50s, I'd be slowing down and doing a part time job for the love of it.
Instead, I have just gone back FT into a high pressured job to ensure we can help the DCs out a bit- not massively, but 2 at uni is expensive.
Anyone else finding this part of their lives the most expensive and knackering time?

Yes -- and the past few months have been too much.

But I wouldn't want to slow down tbh. The idea of retirement fills me with horror.

Plenty of time for that later. I'm at the top of my professional life and have a relatively young DD. Don't want to slow down for many years.

Yep. I'm my mid-50s in a high pressure job which I love, which is very stressful at the moment. I'd love to go part time but realistically it's not going to happen for a while. I also have a dread of retirement, I'm just not ready for that yet. DC are grown but aren't fully independent yet and we've had to support them this year due to their jobs not being secure. It's been really quite tough for the last few months.

Not so much as expensive but most definitely the most exhausting. I never thought I would be 50 yo and being so exhausted. I feel like a FTM of triplets at times...
