This is all good. But, when can you train them to mix your G & T? 😬

lachy · 30/11/2020 20:09

DD is 4. I'm counting the days down until she can make a brew...

alexdgr8 · 30/11/2020 20:11

sounds like next lesson is basic first aid...

Mine can make mojitos.
maddiemookins16mum · 30/11/2020 20:30

DD was making me tea at 9.

Pyewhacket · 30/11/2020 20:31

If your are a 16 year old Princess then venturing into the kitchen for any other reason than to supervise your bacon sarni is a complete anathema. The other two are quite good though.

feministbias · 30/11/2020 20:34

Heavy kettle or boiler tap?

With supervision or without?

What size is your milk carton?
My 12 year old still struggles with a newly opened 4pint milk.

I can't really remember but I bloody love having them make me tea in the morning!

SendHelp30 · 30/11/2020 20:35

DD is 7 and I trained her in lockdown. She does make a lovely cuppa!

feministbias · 30/11/2020 20:37

I will say I'm a scout leader (10-14yearolds) and if they can't make tea, peel and chop veg and light a match before they reach us I'm disappointed.

cabbageking · 30/11/2020 20:39

We showed both daughters how to make a cuppa when they were @ 8.
Also showed them the risks to be aware of. Not over filling the kettle or the cup. How steam can burn. Carrying the finished item etc

StandardLampski · 30/11/2020 20:39

From 7 here, but can't remember last time she did. Novelty worn off Hmm

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 30/11/2020 20:40

Why on earth do primary age children need to make tea? They shouldn't be drinking caffeine at that age, DH is a classic case study of introducing young children to caffeine, he now gets headaches if he doesn't drink at least a dozen cups a day. If it's for the parents, make your own!!! A friend of mine has terrible scars from when she knocked her mum's cup of tea over when she was 8, not worth the risk letting young children handle boiling water because you can't be bothered to make yourself a cup of tea

Surely that could be taught sooner with no scald risk!

I did get my Brownie hostess badge but wasn't allowed to make tea at home until I started high school.

earthyfire · 30/11/2020 20:43

I can't remember what age I was but I'm sure I was quite young because I was cooking early. My son started making green tea when he was 12.

DinoGreen · 30/11/2020 20:47

My gran taught me when I was 7! I’ve already told DS (4.5) that he’s learning when he turns 7, I can’t wait! DH doesn’t drink tea or coffee himself so I make all my own cuppas, except for occasionally when DH will make me one to be nice (but doesn’t do a great job tbh!)

HosannainExcelSheets · 30/11/2020 20:49

My 7yo DD loves to make me tea and bring it up to my room when I'm working. My 11 yo DS (with additional needs) I would not let near a kettle unsupervised. It all depends on the child.

Littleposh · 30/11/2020 20:50

10

Covidnomore · 30/11/2020 20:50

Mines had to do it at 8 for Cubs. She was great for a while but novelty wore off Sad

I remember my uncle teaching me how to make a whisky sour when I was about 6. But he's quite irresponsible!
Pinkyandthebrainz · 30/11/2020 20:54

I was 6.

DS could do that before he could make a brew 😂 definitely around 7 for that and 8 for a brew.
PinGwyn · 30/11/2020 20:58

My youngest was 7, we taught her how to do it when we were busy moving house during lockdown.

Just got her to use the travel kettle so it wasn't too heavy but now she can use the big kettle. She thought she was super grown up and now makes herself one every now and again 😁

Shut up and unclench.
Quornflakegirl · 30/11/2020 21:00

My 8 year old has recently started making me tea, she is very sensible. I wouldn't ask her twin sister to make me tea however!

NuniaBeeswax · 30/11/2020 21:01

I'm 35 and would struggle but I hate tea and never drink it so why would I make it? Anyone who wants it can get their own.
