On Friday I recieved an email from my daughters school, advising she has had direct contact with covid 19 in her class and to self isolate for 14 days. She is 11 years old and not possible for her to be left alone whilst iam at work ,even though iam not self isolatioing ( apparently?? ) .Iam a single parent and my only option is to take 2 weeks unpaid "dependent" leave. I contacted the local council who advised I cannot apply for an isolation payment as it was not through the NHS track and trace system. I find myself not able to work through no fault of my own and have no access to financial help, because it was the school who insisted she stays at home not track and trace. dd2 has to go to school. ( they told me I would be fined if she is not there tomorrow)She is 10. My 11 year old is not to go out, but her sister who lives in the same house can. Is this whole isolation a joke ??

We had this told the school the only way the other child could come was either to leave the 7 year old alone or bring with. Both not possible so they agreed to home schooling for both. Just say no I can't and you want work sent home. Re your work. No idea. Sorry

My 11 year old is entering her 3rd week of isolation. First was due to her being in contact with a child who’d tested positive and then I tested positive. It’s been hell. I’ve no words of wisdom but your work need to be understanding here. Good luck and stay safe.

Has she had many unauthorised absences since the start of September?

None. No days off at all. She loves school and was horrified she couldn't go for two weeks. It never even entered my head that she would be going if her sister is in isolation. Hmm

The 10 year old hasn't been in direct contact with someone with COVID, that's why she doesn't need to isolate even though someone else in the household does.

Same here - DD1 asked to self-isolate because a teacher tested positive, but DD2 hadn't been in contact with the teacher and had to go to school. It's a one person sort of thing I think. Person tests positive, their direct contacts self-isolate, but contacts of those people don't, since the chance of catching it is so low, two steps removed, as it were.

If it's any comfort, I got the Test and Protect message (I'm in Scotland) the day after the school contacted me, so you may well get it yet.

In the same boat OP. I'm currently on day 10 of isolation as there was a case in dds class. I'm a single parent and have had to take unpaid leave. This is the second time since September. The isolation grant doesn't make sense. It doesn't apply to parents caring for children isolating from school. Bloody ridiculous

I see, thanks , Scotland however seems alot more tuned in than England , even from February.

And here's where they are catching people out.

PHE have passed track and trace in schools to Dfe.

So close contacts isolate, this goes through the system set up but no Isla option payment has to be made.

Some could say it's suspicious considering the biggest spread currently is within schools.

gamerchick · 30/11/2020 19:15

I don't think I've met anyone who's been able to get that grant. There's always a loophole.
