Lapland UK - Tier 3 visitors

I think I probably am.

We live very close to Lapland UK. I am in a "Lapland UK fans" group on Facebook as was thinking about booking tickets.
Lots of chat on the group about will tickets be cancelled if you are coming from a tier 3 area, Lapland UK have emailed all customers saying if you live in tier 3 then you should follow the travel guidance. The guidance states you should not travel unless there is a specific reason - visiting an attraction is not one of them. (There is a section talking about visiting attractions but that is within your own area not the other side of the UK)
Most of people discussing on said Facebook group are saying they are from tier 3 areas and they are going anyway whilst discussing which hotels they are staying in locally, visiting other local attraction, pub and restaurant recommendations etc. Which is all against the guidance.

Now AIBU to think this is batshit. How on earth can anyone think it's reasonable, in some cases to travel to the other side of the country, stay in hotels etc whilst knowing the numbers in your area are high. Lapland UK is in a tier two area, and numbers are slowly decreasing ... surely this is going to cause a huge spread and mean that the local area is pushed into tier 3 restrictions?

Before anyone asks I'm not saying tier three people should be locked in their own towns and all this T3 V T2 shite. I'm just asking if I am being unreasonable that people should travel against specific government guidance - the argument is it's not law.
I feel sad that people would have to cancel their trip and it's insanely expensive (which Lapland UK has offered to refund), but everyone has had to make sacrifices.

I suppose most at fault is Lapland UK for allowing this to continue, they have everyone's address to post invites so they would know who is/ isn't in tier 3. They originally said tier 3 visitors would be cancelled but as half the UK is in tier 3 they have now decided otherwise... I suppose the £££ they would lose having to refund is the driving force of that decision.

Argh. I just don't want to be locked in again.

I have also seen that. I’m on a similar position in that we have tickets booked for Hever Castle which is in tier 3, I’m tier 2 and what I understood the guidance to mean is you can visit attractions that are open in your tier but shouldn’t travel from tier 2 to tier 3. Hever are ignoring this and still going ahead.

Whammyyammy · 30/11/2020 16:06

Didn't even know there was a "lapland uk", had to just Google it.
Cant see not being able to go to theme park in Reading being as upsetting as missing out on actualy going to lapland.

ChalkDinosaur · 30/11/2020 16:06

As it's just guidance, and companies won't want to lose money, people will make their own choices.

I'm in T3 and will be choosing to travel for a day trip to see my parents, but we'll meet in a way that would be allowed in T3 (public park) so the travel is the only bit we're breaking. For me that felt better than a Christmas bubble.

I wouldn't travel just to go to a visitor attraction personally, and certainly wouldn't stay overnight, but I can understand why it's a tough decision, especially if you have kids who are looking forward to certain events and especially if the companies aren't cancelling tickets.

I’m not going to Lapland but I had a holiday booked next week. I’m on tier 3 hence I can’t go. The place sent me an email saying Rudy know I’m on tier 3 hence as per guidelines I am not allowed to go.

So they give me options
1 reschedule

  1. Refund

Ir they don’t hear from me then in 48 they think it’s because I want to go ahead with the reservation.
My face was wtf. So you’re telling me I can’t go but at the same time you’re telling me that if I don’t reply within such a small time frame then It means I want to go.

So unluckily many people with no self responsibility and the businesses... the virus will carry on and we’ll be in restricted tiers til the vaccine

livinlavida · 30/11/2020 16:13

We are off to chessington which is a tier 2,
From a tier 2 ourselves. I believe you aren't meant to travel to a tier that is different to your own? Or have I got that wrong 😂 I have no idea what's happening anymore tbh

tiggerbounce77 · 30/11/2020 16:21

I am on the same group, people are interpreting the rules as they see fit. Lapland UK need to cancel the tickets but they don't seem to want to give anyone a straight answer

Potentialscrooge · 30/11/2020 16:28

Oh thanks all for replying.
Sorry I don’t know how to tag, I also think travelling to the same tier is within the guidance especially for an outdoor activity. But staying in hotels, going to restaurants etc is not.
Grrrr
As I said I think a lot of the blame lies with Lapland UK and the amount they will lose is the issue and it sounds like lots of attractions are doing the same.
I mean I know it’s shite but surely we’ve got this far to then have this. I know Lapland UK have said it’s “COVID safe” which is fine and I don’t think it’s the Lapland activity that’s winding me up it’s people pushing it ever further with the hotels etc. All I see on the group is “I don’t care I’m going I’m not disappointing my kids anymore” etc. It just feels selfish.

Don't blame the people. Blame the government who could and should have foreseen this and made the rules explicitly clear.

I'm Tier 3 but not able to visit attractions in T2 apparently, but the places I've booked in T2 aren't offering a refund. So what do i do?

Legoandloldolls · 30/11/2020 16:49

I'm on the same group. I think it sounds like Lapland UK has done a U turn?

They need to clear and stick to the term people booked under which was I think, if you was locked down, the refund.

C4tintherug · 30/11/2020 16:53

You must live close to me OP

Potentialscrooge · 30/11/2020 16:58

If places are not offering a refund then that is terrible but most “attractions” I’ve seen are advertising refunds for people who cannot attend due to local lockdowns.

I think the guidance is very clear - they’ve just not made it illegal so people are still carrying on.

Yep it looks like they are still “offering” the refund or rebook option but most people are still attending.

I’m in Windsor, I think it’s because there is lots of Legoland hotel talk and visiting Windsor Castle as it would have reopened. Also asking for food reccomendations etc.

It’s all a complete shit show. And rubbish for all. Visitors, business owners and local residents.

Legoandloldolls · 30/11/2020 17:05

I have already moved my booking. If I could get a refund and was in tier three I would just cancel it now. If you can can get a refund, you should really.

Everything else has been cancelled and refunded this year, what's one more thing? I'm not telling my kids until I'm sure it's going ahead

AmyandPhilipfan · 30/11/2020 17:11

I’m not sure what’s there but I’m surprised they’re not making it an all outside thing. That’s what most of the tourist attractions in my Tier 3 area are doing - then they’re allowed to go ahead.

I've been amazed (I get emails from Lapland uk) it's even going ahead. Just because you can doesn't mean you should comes to mind

Potentialscrooge · 30/11/2020 21:02

@LD22020 absolutely. I hope common sense prevails and people don’t just go wild.
