Mini Break - 34/35 weeks

Baby due 5th June.

Thinking of booking a week away to the lakes the last week of April, I will be 34/35 weeks.

Do you think I'm leaving it too late?

Home would be 2 hour drive...

Will I be too big to enjoy it?

I was thinking of doing it as late as I can comfortably in the hope the weather won't be too cold.

What do you think?!

AIBU to think this is realistic?

These scenarios happened to me.
Drove back from Spain 20 days before dd was born.
Week end away booked at 35 weeks with ds.
Stopped off at hospital for a check up (1 drop of blood!) - had an emcs 4 hours later...
Take your notes and bag if you do go away!

I was too big and uncomfortable at that stage to go away. I think maybe 30 weeks would have been the cut of point for me.

EggBobbin · 30/11/2020 13:13

I’m 30 weeks right now and have developed sciatica in my thighs. I wouldn’t relish a 2hr drive and I am a bit boring now and don’t want to walk very far either. I was still walking to work at this point with DC1 so you never know, but I’d say the 2nd tri was definitely more comfortable.

MerlotChiantiMontepulicano · 30/11/2020 13:14

I had a night in the cotswolds when I was about 35 weeks, didn't do much other than potter about but it was fine. I was about an hour/90 mins from home.

Agree, take your notes. Maybe book something you can cancel just in case.

bookstearocknroll · 30/11/2020 13:39

When I was about 29 weeks, I started begging my partner to book somewhere to stay over at for my birthday but he kept telling me he wouldn't do it as he had a weird feeling I was going to have my twins early - 31 weeks and one emcs later and he was proved right! It's a risky move, speaking from experience! Definitely take your hospital bag and notes with you if you do go.

Abouttimemum · 30/11/2020 13:53

I had an emergency section at 34 weeks and would have bled to death if not in hospital. If you insist then take your notes and make sure you’re near a hospital.

YoniAndGuy · 30/11/2020 14:08

Hmm. I wouldn't have enjoyed it at that point.

So tired. And nesting. And suddenly aware of stuff that needed to be done. BUT SO TIRED.

If you do - be near a hospital and take your notes, at least. Any complications between now and then and you'll basically want to cancel anything that isn't 30 mins max to a hospital. So don't book something remote.

Constantfacepalm · 30/11/2020 14:21

I did a transatlantic last year with toddler and husband to see family, at 34/36 weeks.... totally fine. Wouldnt have gone that far if just for holiday bit if you really want to go, go for it.... you wont be so far from home Smile

Constantfacepalm · 30/11/2020 14:22

Ps I had 4 types of insurance cover for that trip!

user1493413286 · 30/11/2020 14:25

I would book it but with the possibility of cancelling it or at least being able to move it to several months later when you’ve had the baby. I would have been fine at 34 weeks and quite enjoyed it but at 35 weeks I developed pelvic girdle pain and both walking and the car aggravated it.

Waveysnail · 30/11/2020 14:52

You may find you would rather be at home. I went into nesting mode around that time.

elliejjtiny · 30/11/2020 15:06

Personally I wouldn't. But then my waters broke at 35 weeks twice.

LobsterRavioli · 30/11/2020 16:27

Hmmmm I think you're all right.

I'll book something for March I think xx

Another one who personally wouldn’t as I had my first at 34 weeks (there was no warning that I was at increased risk of this and it was uncomplicated pregnancy until I went into premature labour). I did go on a 12 hour flight at 28 and 30 weeks in that pregnancy, and it was absolutely fine, but given what subsequently happened in the pregnancy I wouldn’t do that again.

Notsofast1 · 30/11/2020 17:31

I love how so many of us have been through the same thing! Sailed through my first pregnancy, not complicated or high risk etc etc, got flipping knackered walking up stairs, hills or any kind of incline after about 30 weeks otherwise fine. Went on holiday to spain at 31 weeks came back at 33 weeks had a great time. Went to Scotland (flew up, I live on the south coast) at 34 weeks for my cousins wedding, had an amazing time, got home 3 days later and my waters broke within 24 hours! Daughter was born at 34+5..now that's not to say having her away wouldn't have been an issue BUT my entire family live in the North of Scotland so I would have been ok other than the issue of having to get home a newborn 600 miles. So you just never know what's going to happen. I'd say 2 hours away is generally fine because if something was to happen you can just jump in the car and come back but really any further isnt ideal. Speaking from previous experience I wont be going away from now....I'm currently 31 weeks.

JumperooSue · 30/11/2020 18:11

I went 5 hours away at 36 weeks to see my sister, I just stopped regularly to stretch my legs! I took my notes, a small emergency bag and put the car seat in the car just in case. I was knackered by the end of the weekend but it was so nice to have one last child free weekend away, but only do what you are comfortable with😊
