Do all year 6 girls fall out this much?

Ainu? To ask if this is normal?

Dd is in year 6 at primary school. She’s never had any issues with friendships etc. Since the start of year 6 some of the other girls, who she has always been good friends with, have started being a bit mean. They sometimes exclude her and say mean things. Every other day there’s been some kind of falling out. We regularly have tears at home.

It’s like they all had personality transplants! Is it their age, their hormones etc?? Do I speak to the teacher?

I at a loss as to what to do

Yanbu - This is normal
Yabu - this is not normal, speak to the teacher

In my limited experience its usually the same girls driving it every time and if you can separate the groups things quieten down for the non drama group.
The girls who have learned to thrive on generating drama need support imo.

Sadly very normal- I really recommend Rosalind Wiseman's book Queen Bees and Wannabes. Great for helping parents help their daughter navigate the drama and turbulence of girl world!

So many parents would complain that their darling child had become a monster after starting High School, what were we doing about it??? We had to explain that unfortunately Years 6/7 generally co-incide with puberty and it wasn't our fault! I used to find that we spent more time on girls' rows than boys, the boys would have a scrap and then be the best of friends, girls' rows could be toxic. If I had had to tell a girl off in Year 7 she would remember it in great detail in Year 11!
