To ask how to get rid of the most persistent thrush

Posting on aibu for traffic!

I'm desperate to get rid of this thrush that's come and gone for months and I cannot permanently shift it.

I've tried taking fluconozole and itraconazole for weeks at a time. I don't have anything with sugar, I've been careful re cotton pants, laundry detergents, been drinking kefir for months, but it keeps coming back.

I've got slight stomach discomfort and a lot of soreness with it too.

Definitely not pregnant or an sti.

Can anyone tell me if they've had a similar experience and any suggestions for what I can do or what I could ask a doctor for?

Thank you!!

Ugh, I get this too. Stay away from Dr. Google - there's some crazy advice out there! I have tried many, many different things to try and keep it under control. I also have lichen sclerosis, flare-ups of which seem to be triggered by thrush. The treatment for lichen sclerosis is then steroid creams, which can increase thrush. Happy days!

No cures here, but things that help me: Eurax cream for itching - utterly amazing, and doesn't irritate me (unlike vagisil, which is miserable). Don't apply to broken skin though (ouch!).

Dermol 500 for washing - it has an antimicrobial effect that seems to help (no idea if it actually does anything to the thrush, but it definitely helps me.)

Anti-histamine for the itching. The doctor prescribed me fexofenadine, and it is amazing. It just seems to switch off itching. This can really help, as sometimes you can get into an itch-scratch cycle, and this can help take a break from it.

Hope you find a solution soon - I know just how miserable long term itching can be. Unfortunately, doctors who will actually look into it are few and far between.

It is not just sugar you need to avoid. All carbohydrates turn into sugar in your body, so go for food that has a low number on the glycemic index scale. You can use pearl barley instead of rice, and eat vegetables instead of fruit.
