To be going off my friend?

I know that sounds a bit awful but around 7 years ago I met her through work.
She told me a story of how she was sleeping with her mates boyfriend and had fallen out with her.
Put it down to her being young.
Last June she started texting a guy but kept details hidden.
Turns out it was her friends husband.
The same friend who she was going to spa days with, going out for lunch etc
This woman thought they were great friends.
Anyway her friend found out so my friend started a smear campaign to discredit her, saying to people she was crazy, took drugs, had it in for her etc.
Ever since then I don't know I just get a bad feeling.
I don't think she's a nice person.
This isn't someone who made a mistake.
She's done so many nasty tricks.
Then it reminded me 5 years ago she was at her friends wedding.
She and the bridesmaid were sharing a hotel room.
She had sex with the best man in the toilet whilst this girl was asleep (this girl also slept with him and had feelings )
Aibu to gradually step away from her ?

I don't know about step away, I'd flat out run in the other direction. It takes a nasty cow to get a kick out of 'stealing' other people's partners

littlemiceinthecorner · 27/11/2020 09:17

Do you need to ask? Does she have any redeeming features?

TheresNothingIWantMore · 27/11/2020 09:18

Honestly I'd be tempted to step away without bothering to be gradual about it!
But you've seen the way she can turn on people so a gradual approach may be better!

Frannibananni · 27/11/2020 09:23

Why would you want to be friends with such a awful person.

annjohn55 · 27/11/2020 09:23

That's what scares me,the things she can do when you "cross" her.
I just don't want to continue being friends with her.
She would screw me over without a thought.

A bad feeling Grin erm, yes. I would edge away from her. Be busy a lot. She sounds like a horrible, bullying, untrustworthy twat.

Girlzroolz · 27/11/2020 09:53

I don't think she's a nice person.

No, really? You think? Or maybe you should give her the benefit of the doubt until she sleeps with your own partner? Or your dad? Or your firstborn? Hmm

PaperTowels · 27/11/2020 09:55

I don't think she's a nice person

YA THINK????

confusedx3 · 27/11/2020 10:01

Presumably, other people know what she is like by now, after doing all the things you have said in your OP so really, who is going to believe her or even care if she does say things about you?

From what you've said, she probably says things about you behind your back anyway and would screw you over without a thought even if you stay friends with her.

WishICouldThinkOfAGoodName · 27/11/2020 10:04

Phase her out

Fandantastic · 27/11/2020 10:08

@WishICouldThinkOfAGoodName

Phase her out
This.
HappydaysArehere · 27/11/2020 10:11

You know the answer. Any man is a challenge and your dh might be next as friends seem to be the channel she uses.

MrsBobDylan · 27/11/2020 10:23

You have a 'bad feeling'? About standing by and remaining her friend while she proves herself to be a bad person?

Intuition at it's finest.

MaMaD1990 · 27/11/2020 10:23

Realistically what is it she will do back to you if you don't want to be friends anymore? Is there anything really that damaging she can do? She sounds awful and I think you're right to want to step back. If you want minimal drama, I would just gradually phase her out. Don't be available to meet, answer messages quite short and gradually take longer and longer to reply until she gets the idea. If you want a full blown drama scenario just tell her you don't think she's very nice and you no longer want anything to do with her for xyz reasons. Good luck!

GuidonianHand · 27/11/2020 11:00

Why are you asking?

stampsurprise · 27/11/2020 11:17

She's toxic and loves drama.

Definitely get rid!

Just do it slowly and grey-rock her so she will get bored of you and seek greener pastures to support her antics.

JillofTrades · 27/11/2020 11:21

I would not have anything to do with someone who has morals like that.
