universal credit question

Hello,

this is more to stop my partner getting himself worried (hes a panicker) but due to corona he has struggled with work a bit (self employed).

he thinks he may have accidentally been overpaid by universal credits 900 pounds. he said he answered the question "have you recieved any help from the government scheme due to coronavirus" (probably not the exact wording) as no, then answered no again to the next questions but one of them actually said "have you received any money from self employment" (again probably not wordes that exactly. he hasnt done this on purpose - far from it. he is an honest person - hence the panicking now! I think he is going to ring up in the morning but in the meantime can anyone shed any light on what would trigger an investigation anyway and how to put his mind at rest?

he is the sort of person who is now probably going to spend all night convincing himself hes going to be going to jail and having to pay back thousands in fines.

thank you!

and in case anyone thinks how can you accidentally put no...he is terrible with technology, doesnt read things properly and gets flustered easily. he said he is never filling out something like this again without me there! Halloween Blush

He'll have to pay back the over payment that's all

There wouldn't be an investigation for one assessment periods income.

He can report it when he rings tomorrow and it will be referred to debt management as an overpayment. He will be eventually ( they are really busy) asked to start monthly repayments .

he seems to have convinced himself hes getting investigated....this only happened last month. hes only just realised because he (correctly) filled out this months form and realised that it was 900 pound less than last months..

I did say to him I think it's unlikely dwp will be coming for you but he is such a worrier.

There is zero chance of him being investigated . £900 is a very small amount compared to the huge amount of fraudulent claims over this past year.
Tell him to ask for a callback from his case manager rather than explaining to the person who takes the call. They wont be able to put his mind at rest but his case manager will.

okay thanks - I dont know anything about universal credits myself so couldnt really say much to make him chill out although I did think it was unlikely for 900 pounds! obviously any overpayment isnt ideal but he didnt do it on purpose
