Is this normal? Pip assessment

Obviously things have changed somewhat with the Covid thing, no face to face assessments now. This just seems a bit weird to me.

DH had a review back in March the week before lockdown and lost his award. The assessor was an arsehole and DH finds it really difficult as he had a speech impediment. We did briefly consider appealing, but didn’t. He still has his injury/mobility issues but is on the list for surgery. Whatever.

Fast forward to this week and a telephone review appt came through unexpectedly. Had the call today and it was extremely in-depth and they’d clearly requested his entire medical record prior to the call because they were asking him about other health issues that he’s not claimed for in the past(a head injury as a child that had left him with minor permanent after effects for example). She also knew he was having CBT which is a new thing since lockdown. Previous arsehole assessor had not made notes of the very strong controlled drug pain relief he is now on, or the change to his other meds to stronger ones, even though previous assessor was told in March. Woman today seemed annoyed that this had been missed off.

Does this sound like they are auditing that previous assessor? Could be ex wife flagging DH up for benefit fraud thinking he’s still claiming? She’s tried before and failed. Obviously we didn’t request this assessment today so not sure of the reason. All a bit odd.

Not heard of this before but might be worth checking with the Benefits and Work website or CAB

There was an assessor who complainined about their job, online in a review for the assessment company, really nasty stuff. Using their real name. They got fired, for discrimination, and there was a statement that they would reassess claimants assessed by them.

So it is possible.

It was in a newsletter from benefits and work months ago.

Hmmmmm @Becca19962014 that’s interesting. Will have to look in to that one

I don't keep their emails so it might have been longer than I thought. You can always ask in the benefit and work forum or cab or similar if you have them near you. Might not be relevant of course but your post reminded me of it.

Either way he's had what sounds like a better assessment so hopefully some good can come of it!!

I spoke to my line manager today as she used to be a pip assessor years ago and she said that it sounds like an investigation, either of my DH or of their own processes. Will just have to wait and see I guess. He’s got nothing to hide, he was claiming it legitimately when he was, and now he is not, so whatever.

I see. Didn't happen like that when I was reported.
Perhaps they've changed it, which is a good thing if so!

Fingers crossed he'll get a positive outcome.
