To think there is nothing special about Moulton Brown.

My friend often buys their shower gel for me as a gift. And although it's lovely, I can't help think he's being ripped off. I can't tell any difference between that and Baylis and Harding. Or am I missing something?!

I don't get the hype either to be honest. I prefer cheap shower gel Blush

Cocomarine · 26/11/2020 14:00

@MarchionessofActon

Probably is a bit style over substance like a lot of things, but it makes a lovely gift.
I disagree, because I don’t want an over priced “style over substance” waste as a gift!
Duckwit · 26/11/2020 14:01

I was so disappointed in a Molton Brown shower gel I bought a couple of years ago. It was.... Fine, but no better than what you would get in Boots for a couple of quid.

MarchionessofActon · 26/11/2020 14:03

I had some once I liked, haven’t ever got it again. Stayed in a hotel this year that boasted Molton Brown products and either the quality has gotten really poor or they filled them up with cheap Baylis shite. Probably the latter.

Now if I could just kick my Rituals addiction...

BeyondMyWits · 26/11/2020 14:04

The scent lingers on my skin all day with MB, so much more depth to it than a cheap shower gel, not sure it is totally worth it at £22 a bottle! but DH buys me some for birthday and Christmas.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/11/2020 14:04

It's a lovely gift to be given. And he's very generous. It dies last ages I will admit that. But I just can't get over how much it costs!

I have only just encountered mb. I ordered some soaps that were free and I just paid postage. I also got a free perfume sample. I now have a big bottle of said perfume coming for Xmas! The soap is definitely high quality. B&H is definitely not so great at all.

JauntyMcGinty · 26/11/2020 14:12

I'd be delighted if I got some MB as a gift. I wouldn't be delighted if I got B&H, it's always dried out my hands.

Lalaloveyou2020 · 26/11/2020 14:13

Once there's a copycat version of something, it always seems to cheapen the brand in people's view. Not just MB but also Jo Malone....haven't bought a £50 candle since Adli brought out their dupes Confused

flaviaritt · 26/11/2020 14:16

I like it.

Connieston · 26/11/2020 14:19

Another vote for the MB black pepper bodywash/bubblebath. It's a gorgeous powdery spicy scent that stays on your skin for ages. The pink peppercorn is nice too.

CoffeeRunner · 26/11/2020 14:24

I love Molton Brown. Like others, I have sensitive skin & can’t usually use anything too heavily perfumed but MB leaves my skin so soft & moisturised.

I don’t use Bayliss & Harding, really don’t rate it at all.

whynotwhen · 26/11/2020 14:27

I love it. DH goes through a bottle a week (Russian leather is his fave) so we spend a small fortune on it but it's very nice and BH doesn't come anywhere close in comparison

Jammydodger1981 · 26/11/2020 14:28

I love MB. If I receive any B&H I give it away to the Mother’s Day fete at the kids school!

Horrible stuff, I’d rather use supermarkets own/original source/radox than that!

ILikeStrongTea · 26/11/2020 14:38

We have some B&H hand wash at work and it’s useless stuff, just falls off my hands.

motheroftwoboys · 26/11/2020 15:42

Try this - www.nobleisle.com/catalog/products/7970-fireside/ - really good. It was provided at a hotel I stayed in recently and I took the empty bottle away to sniff. Put it on your Christmas list. You can thank me later.

keeprocking · 26/11/2020 15:44

@Florelei

I really like their black pepper body wash. I haven’t found anything remotely similar in scent.
Oh yes, my favourite of all time, I have loads as I'm otherwise impossible to buy for!
HotSince63 · 26/11/2020 15:48

Ah the annual Molton Brown Christmas thread.

Their Blissful Templetree shower gel smell lasts all day on me.

Even looking at a bottle of Bayliss and Harding makes me itch. But if you can't tell the difference, ask your friend to get you 20 bottles of that instead.

TheOrigRights · 26/11/2020 15:56

My ex husband used to make their products.
It was a very small set up then.
He brought home loads of stuff. I used to love the Sea Grass body wash, but I don't think they do it now.

Mandalorian · 26/11/2020 16:03

Bayliss & Harding must have gotten wind of their 'cheap' status as they now also trade under the name 'The Fuzzy Duck'. Nice twee name but same shite stuff.

Fairyliz · 26/11/2020 16:09

I’m with you op not sure what all the fuss is about. Yes it’s a nice smell but I find it drying and expensive.

FangsForTheMemory · 26/11/2020 16:20

I like Milton Brown. I don’t see the attraction of Jo Malone, though.

Clawdy · 26/11/2020 16:22

Baylis and Harding handwash vanilla and jojoba is lovely smelling!

ihatethecold · 26/11/2020 19:22

I was given a set of noble isle handwash and hand cream last week. It’s lovely.
I’d definitely re buy it.
No idea how much it’s costs though.

Spanglybangles · 26/11/2020 19:39

I really like MB, particularly Gingerlily and Pink Pepperpod. B&H not so much. Now, I absolutely LOVE Bath and Bodyworks stuff, A Thousand Wishes being my fave scent, and so wish they had stores in the UK. Can’t wait to be able to get back to the states to stock up.
