I'm after some inspiration, as I realised I haven't read a good book in so long, mostly due to being glued to the same old rubbish on my 'smart' phone. Coupled with lockdown, I think my brain is grinding to a halt.
I will offer up Wuthering Heights; bit of an obvious one, but I love how my perception of it changes year to year, from 'how romantic' (impressionable teen) to 'dysfunctional much'?!

was on this thread last night around 3:30 with insomnia, and wanted to thank @WankPuffins for recommending Coming Up For Air by George Orwell, made a good start on it last night.

@WotWouldCJDo it was £5.50 on Kindle!

I loved Poisonwood Bible, was the best thing I've ever read (and I've read the Goldfinch!) but wouldn't say it was life changing.

I'm not into self help books, but I read "Rising Strong" by Brene Brown when I was going through a period of massive upheaval and it was instrumental in how I put myself back together. She's a scientist, so it's not woo, so it's allowed

A thousand splendid suns. Never felt so moved by a book. Completely changed my image of Afghanistan, its people, what it's been threw.Tbh I didn't know much other than what you see on the media before I read it. But mostly it gave me an insight in to what it's actually like for women who have literally no rights.

Rich Dad: Poor Dad.
Got into investing early with my future in mind.

@lazylinguist

The Name of the Wind - utterly beautiful, outrageously brilliant fantasy novel. I've been waiting 12 years for the third in the series though so be warned.

Came on to say exactly this! It's my favourite book in the world. And, for the record, I've read quite a lot of 'proper literature' too - I'm not just a fantasy fan.

I don't doubt it, I have an MA in literature, but fantasy is still my favourite genre. Nothing low brow about it.

@epythymy oh God I have millions of recommendations.

The Mistborn Series, Ship of Magic, Black Prism.

All great fantasy in a similar tone. Not quite NoTW though.
