A lot of people recently saying how much their young kids ( 6-8) love watching friends. Lots of clothes for children appearing. I don’t understand it I mean I don’t allow mine to watch as I don’t think it’s appropriate and if the kids don’t get the inappropriate bits then what is funny about 6 adults lives if they actually have no idea what the funny bits mean 🤣🤷‍♀️

Sorry I am stressed and can’t sleep so a debate is always helpful haha !

I can't understand what they'd get out of it!

It was a show aimed at young 20 somethings. Can't see the appeal to a 6 year old.

Missushbb · 25/11/2020 22:57

I don't get this either, or all the kids clothes appearing.

Guineapigbridge · 25/11/2020 22:58

The hype is not hype. It's marketing. They're trying to sell merchandise and people spend big on kids.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 25/11/2020 22:59

I wouldn’t let my 8 year old watch it.

40weekswithno2 · 25/11/2020 23:00

I wasn't aware kids were watching friends? Haven't heard of it as a thing.
They've worked out that those of us who watched it first time round are at the age to be having kids now /already have them so it's just marketing to the parents really

Whattheactual20201 · 25/11/2020 23:00

@Guineapigbridge well it is
6 year old wearing friends jumpers with parents like of the love friends.
It so inappropriate.

@40weekswithno2 why would anyone put 6 years old on clothes of a tv show the child didn’t even like though 🤣

My kids love it but they are at university, it's simply not appropriate for kids under about 16 due to the subject matter

PenguinErector · 25/11/2020 23:02

I LOVE Friends and my 7 year old has caught the odd episode but she doesn't really "get it" and loses interest pretty quickly. I did wonder about the clothes appearing too!

With that said my daughter has seen pretty much every episode of E.R, Chicago Fire and The Goldberg's which probably aren't particularly appropriate either 😳

Tootsietoot · 25/11/2020 23:02

It so fucking dated. Lots of jokes out porn, and how about 20 times one of the men want to touch their "friends" tits and tells them and everyone laughs. Of a man I know ever did that to me (now or in the 1990s) I would have punched their teeth out.

SushiGo · 25/11/2020 23:03

An awful lot of kids clothes are for shows they're too young to get. So much marvel superhero stuff is pitched at 4yos, but there is very little that kids that young could watch!

It's about the parents.

Whattheactual20201 · 25/11/2020 23:04

@Tootsietoot I can not re watch it I’m 2020 I tried I can not get back in to it.

This happens all the time though. I was looking for a Christmas jumper for my 4yo recently and there was Star Wars, Xbox and play station ones in Asda. Also babies being dressed in themed things when clearly they don't know what the theme is. Parents usually dress their kids in what they want to unless they have strong opinions on the matter and a lot of 6 year olds won't care.

DeeandraReynolds · 25/11/2020 23:11

I suppose a lot of young kids claim to love Star Wars, when they most likely are too young to watch most of the films... A lot of that merchandise is probably bought for children who don't really watch the movies.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 25/11/2020 23:21

My 10 year old watches it all the time! Some episodes you have to skip as it's a bit dated and more risqué than I remembered...

myhobbyisouting · 25/11/2020 23:31

@PenguinErector your 7 year old has seen every episode of Chicago fire and ER? Confused

Kljnmw3459 · 25/11/2020 23:31

I don't understand it either but I think it's just parents buying stuff for their kids and kids might have seen a funny bit that made them laugh. I'd imagine most of the humour in it is boring for young kids.

Whattheactual20201 · 25/11/2020 23:32

@myhobbyisouting haha my 7 year old is
All about
Spirit, miraculous and barbies dream house 🤣

I jave never once censored my children from Stars Wars or Marvel. Just myself

It's this. Getting parents feeling nostalgic so they spend money.

PenguinErector · 25/11/2020 23:37

@myhobbyisouting probably, it wasn't entirely on purpose. The kids had a NowTV box in their room which I didn't realise had a continue watching function on so she had been watching my stuff up there even though I'd set the parental controls 🤦‍♀️

She loves anything to do with the emergency services so it must've caught her interest, one day she mentioned it to me and I realised. She was really "into" it so I decided to watch it with her so I could skip anything too bad and explain anything she asked about.

Parenting fail on my part but I don't think either are that bad tbh - lesson learnt on the NowTV front though!!

Whattheactual20201 · 25/11/2020 23:38

Yeh but people getting their kids like friends dressing gown etc for Xmas why on earth if they didn’t like friends would they want a dressing gown 🤣
Saying that I am aiming this at people who have stated their kids love friends.

Not seen Chicago Fire or The Goldbergs but ER has some pretty hairy topics and scenes.

Lucy and Carter getting stabbed (oh how I cried Sad). Romano getting his arm cut off and then subsequently crushed by a helicopter...

Not sure a 7 year old should be seeing that stuff!

PenguinErector · 25/11/2020 23:39

I should add she mostly watches Barbie, Mr Bean and Ryan's World - I don't make her sit and watch these things only if she specifically mentions it!

Nikhedonia · 25/11/2020 23:39

And Corday and Greene's little girl taking E by mistake because of his older daughter... just heartbreaking stuff.
