To think tinnitus can go away?

Any positive stories of tinnitus going away and if so how long did you have it for?

mrsfeatherbottom · 25/11/2020 21:13

I had it for a few days once and it went away!

LadyCatStark · 25/11/2020 21:14

Sorry DH’s experience is the opposite, he’s had it for 11 years 😵

FeatherySquawkington · 25/11/2020 21:14

I've had it for 6 weeks.....! Glad it went for you though.

LadyCatStark · 25/11/2020 21:15

He does say though that a lot of the time he’s so used to it that it doesn’t bother him, unless someone (usually me 😂) mentions it.

CooperLooper · 25/11/2020 21:16

I've had it for about 2 weeks now after having covid (awful sinus/eye socket/face pain) - it's still there but I'm hopeful it's fading slightly

FeatherySquawkington · 25/11/2020 21:17

Sorry to hear that @CooperLooper hope it keeps improving for you.

Yes mine comes and goes. Weirdly taking folic acid usually get rid of it.

16purplecolour16 · 25/11/2020 21:20

I’ve had it since 2008. Immune to it now. Sometimes when it seems really loud, I think no wonder it was difficult to start with. I am completely OK with it now.

NancysDream · 25/11/2020 21:21

Yes. Mine recurs when I'm stressed or run down, but is not constant or permanent although the first round did last quite a while

RedHelenB · 25/11/2020 21:26

Mine's been 2 years bit its mild and only bothers me at night, when I'm getting off to sleep.

iHaveACold · 25/11/2020 21:27

I've had it for about 15 years. It has not gone away but I have learnt how to cancel it out/ignore it so it doesn't cause me any trouble. I play rain noises at night so never notice it.

Tinty · 25/11/2020 21:28

@FeatherySquawkington

Please see a GP, I had tinnitus and asked for an appointment to see the GP regarding it. I was sent to a nurse who told me it was my age, I was 45, and that I could just play music to cover it Hmm. I thought she knew what she was talking about. So I just tried to carry on and ignore it, then a year later went for a routine blood pressure test for my pill and my GP told me my blood pressure was too high. I mentioned the tinnitus and he said that is often a sign of high blood pressure. I am on tablets now and the tinnitus is gone. It did come back and my dose was raised and now it is gone again.

Anyway that was a really long boring story, sorry Grin, but the point is, go and get your blood pressure checked 😁

Othering · 25/11/2020 21:29

I've had mine for 18 months. I live in hope that it will one day go but it's unlikely. That said, I don't notice it as much any more.

Baybetterdays · 25/11/2020 21:30

Yes, had it for months and rarely hear it now (a year later). I was really upset at the time of diagnosis of a high frequency hearing loss, remember crying thinking I’ll never have silence again, got a white noise app to sleep - and over time ... it’s gone to the extent I’m surprised when it pops back (very rarely). Strangely apparently it’s still there but my brain adjusted. There is hope, OP.

Norugratsatall · 25/11/2020 21:39

Yes me! Had it in 2002 for a year or so. It went. It came back in 2011 for about 3 years. Gradually for less and less and was completely gone by Jan 2015. Came back Aug 2019 following several heavy colds, one on top of the other. Caught a Covid in March and it got worse. Hugh pitched buzzing. 8 months later (I have long Covid) it's gradually fading thank goodness. Much better during daytime hours, not so good at night. It's shit, sympathies.

FeatherySquawkington · 25/11/2020 21:39

I'm hoping to adjust with time but I have a different noise in each ear and a general 'head' noise. Is it possible to adjust to it all?

OP posts:
FeatherySquawkington · 25/11/2020 21:40

Yes. In a nutshell, it is shit!

OP posts:
Norugratsatall · 25/11/2020 21:40

Sorry about typos! Blush

Norugratsatall · 25/11/2020 21:42

I think you will habituate yes! The other day, mine had been buzzing away all day and it cut out suddenly. I strangely got mildly irritated that it had stopped, had sort of got used to it and not noticed it throughout the day.

plominoagain · 25/11/2020 21:43

I have it , as do most of my colleagues . I find I’ve tuned it out most of the time - mine is like a low level whistle , and I find a white noise ( rain ) type app , or an Audiobook help as far as sleeping goes .

Norugratsatall · 25/11/2020 21:43

Have you had a cold? Covid?

Flaunch · 25/11/2020 21:44

Mine is entirely dependent on how stressed I am but even when it’s bad I can pretty much tune it out. It’s one of those things that’s worse when you give it headspace.

LakieLady · 25/11/2020 21:47

I've had it for over 20 years (Meniere's disease). It's ever-present but it varies in volume and I've pretty much got used to it now.

FeatherySquawkington · 25/11/2020 21:55

I had a mild cold end of September, this started about a month after. Not had covid.

OP posts:
PigletJohn · 25/11/2020 22:06

I have it faint in one ear, but either it's eased off, or I've got used to it (can't hear high pitch in that ear)
