The advice is cut down 1-2 tablets per week!

Google Codeinefree me it's the same advice for dihydrocdeine.

Yes GP should help.

I hope you can get through this and be drug free. The GP will be able to help.

I’ve just done this four weeks ago Flowers

It does pass, eventually, I found it easiest to just sit on the sofa under a dressing gown and stare at the TV .
Lost at least ten days to it but it does pass . Cravings are slowly starting to settle too now .

Eat little and often and stuff you can stomach . Bread and butter, shop bought sandwiches, snacky stuff, McDonald’s, I couldn’t stomach a full blown meal at all .

It was the diarrhoea and panic attacks that got me most ...

It does get better. My GP was next to useless - although gave me a couple of diazepam - but did say if you can sit out the withdrawal it eases .

If you need to take it again - I will, I’m prescribed it often - this was my medic chum’s advice - take only what’s absolutely necessary . Two or three days maximum . Ask for smaller prescriptions and ask for the combined with paracetomal stuff so you can’t fiddle the dosage . Supposedly if it’s just 2 days you shouldn’t lapse back into addiction and withdrawal cycle . Dunno if that’s entirely true but that’s what I was advised .

Good luck, I know you want to be off the dihydrocodeine, but don't try and do it too quickly. If you've acknowledged you have a problem with it there is support to enable you to cut down more slowly and avoid feeling this rough.

Are you still in pain or are you just taking it for the addiction now? If you're still in pain have you given any thought to the pain relief you want to be taking after you've come off dihydrocodeine? That's probably where your GP can help you, there's limited support they can give for you going cold turkey at home

I've been an addict for years
Various issues have come up which means I'm Almost constantly taking it in some form

I've just spoken to the GP who told me to take cocodamol x4 a day for a week and come back to her

Idk how that will help
She said it will
Make the withdrawal go away

I've come this far i didn't want to take it again

But how can I cope with kids

I need to be well for them not leave it all for my Husband to take time off work

I'm still in pain but not enough pain to warrant DHC

I have done cold turkey withdrawal from codeine three times - so not as strong as dihydracodeine but man it was grim. I'm not so sure about dihydracodeine but I know with codeine everything I read said that symptoms peaked around day four or five and then started to get better. I spent a lot of time in the bath for the sore legs, took a hell of a lot of immodium for the diarrhoea and just tried to think in my head that if I could get through another day I would be closer to the physical withdrawals being over. I found that although I wasn't getting quality sleep I was napping a lot during the day - easier said than done with kids around but if you do get a chance to nap then do.

cocodamol will likely make the withdrawals ease as it's got codeine in it, same as dihydracodeine but at a weaker strength.

FWIW I was advised by my GP never to stop taking codeine cold turkey, not because it's dangerous but because the withdrawals are so unpleasant. My GP said they'd help me taper down my dosage so I didn't get withdrawals. If you're getting your meds prescribed by your GP would it maybe be an option to ask them to help you taper down? So maybe they'd prescribe you less each time? Tapering down does take discipline though, something I didn't have which is why I ended up doing cold turkey three times.

If you're really struggling to function (I know I was - withdrawal is physically and mentally exhausting) then I would keep at your GP. If you don't want to take the cocodamol and want to try and stick out the rest of the cold turkey they might be able to prescribe you something else to get you through the last few days of physical withdrawals.

Good luck.
