to think that an evening job shouldn't train you during the day

got a job at a super market three nights a week until ten

the induction is sat 9 - 3 and monday 8 - 4

luckily my mum can have kids on sat and mil can have them on monday

but i also work at the school and during the hols we have to go in during the day so i am also working at the school wed and thurs 8 til 1 next week

the suoper market has just called and asked me to do some till training on wed and i have just had to say that i can;t as i have already said i will work that day at the school the lady that called sounded a bit pissed but what can i do?

she said that we would have to work something out but if she wants me to go in during the day on a different day next week i really can't as mil wonlt come every day of the week

and ffs it's an evening job i am working on a night cos i canlt work during te day

They all do it, and it's bloody annoying. YANBU to resent it, but there's not much you can do unfortunately.

Where possible they should be training you in the evening. If they couldn't accommodate your training in the evening they should of told you up front.

I see no reason why they can't do your till training in the evening and as such it should take place then.

If you were on an induction training course which involved a mixture of day and evening staff then it would be more justifiable (for the classroom based elements) to take place during the day. However, if the majority of new starts worked in the evening then the induction training should take place in the evening.

The delivery of the training should take into account people's working patterns. It is very backwards of your supermarket not to be doing this.

they don't ALL do it. they certainly don't where i work. we run daytime and evening induction and training courses. as an evening manager i make sure this happens.

I was constantly having run-ins over this with someone in HR at the housing association I worked for.

I was taken on as a relief worker to cover occasional evenings and weekends (when DP could have the DC) but HR insisted on regularly sending me info on compulsory training courses for weekdays.

I kept phoning and explaining the reasons why I worked evenings and weekends and the woman in HR kept saying that I would have to find childcare. She could not accept that I didn't have childcare or that if DP took the day off work we would have no income for that day as he is self-employed and earns a hell of a lot more than me.

am in the exact same situation as you betty but a lot of employers can;t get their heads around the fact that it's not always straight forward to arrange childcare as it is i only had three days notice for the 2 day induction

am not that bothered aout the induction as she did say i my interview that it would be during the day but she did not say it would be two nearly full days or anything about trianing during the day - this is what has got me the fact that i have arranged two full days of childcare at a moments notice and they expect me to arrange another for the same week - well it's just not possible and i really hope that this doesnt effect my trial period etc
