I'm thinking about a cash health plan

I'd love a full private health and dental policy, but I'm not earning nearly enough to afford that....

I've found cash health policies - they pay a fixed amount towards routine treatment for dental, opticians, prescriptions, physio, that sort of thing.

I'm already paying for out for a pre-pay prescription certificate, monthly contact lenses, I use physio or osteopathy for various ailments as needed, and would love another course of acupuncture for pain management.

One plan I've found is about £28/month.
I pay £28/month for my existing health needs. I'd get £24 back each month if I claimed regularly so would be paying £4/month to access discounts in future including the acupuncture (especially needed for dentist for me as my NHS dentists have shut their doors and are only seeing their private patients (grrr)).

AIBU or does it seem a bit too good to be true?

Yes it does. Read the small print very carefully. You will probably be limited to very few appointments and probably told where those appointments will be.

For dental care I would probably buy a dental policy. Physio and acupuncture I’m not sure. Even full BUPA (for example) policies are pretty tight on what they offer since, like all insurance policies, they are all about the bottom line.

Doesn't sound likely this could work in the long term.

@MatildaTheCat yes, I've looked at the small print and most of it works for me - certain accreditations are required for the appointments to be covered, and I go to those people anyway.

I can't afford a dental policy, it would need to be £60+ a month to cover my appalling teeth. For a joint medical and dental policy, it's over £100/month and excludes mental health and all pre-existing conditions....
