My husband can't sit still

Is anyone else married to someone who, like the rest of his family are congenitally incapable of sitting still and quiet. I have had a shit day at work and just want to sit quiet. So far we've had chewing his nails down to the knuckle really loudly, rubbing his fingers together to make a noise, shuffling his feet every 10 seconds. Thankfully he's moved on the relative quiet of messing with his hair. Toying with the idea of slinging a glass of water directly at his head AIBU?

Does he do cricket feet? That drives me mad.

Houseplantmad · 23/11/2020 20:26

Oh god, DH does this and it drives me INSANE. He says he gets an itchy feeling inside and then is like a bloody mozzie in a bottle for the next few hours.

You have my sympathies.

yelyah22 · 23/11/2020 20:27

My OH is like this, but he does have ADHD!

JumperooSue · 23/11/2020 20:28

Yesssss, also randomly and violently starts shaking his leg without even realising.

N1C0le · 23/11/2020 20:28

What are cricket feet? Is that shuffling? What about sitting cross legged jiggling his leg with one finger inside his slippers aaaargh

DP is thrashing like a spawning salmon right now. Allegedly we’re watching TV; apparently it necessitates full-body twitching. And coughing. And flailing.

gamerchick · 23/11/2020 20:30

It's when they stretch their legs and rub their ankles together like a cricket does with its back legs.

Like a dry skin rub noise. Puts my teeth on edge.

Ernieshere · 23/11/2020 20:32

Aahhh that's why I have been single for 8 years, thanks for reminding me Grin

I would still like a cuddle sometimes though Sad

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/11/2020 21:05

It's me in this house that cannot sit still. If I'm not twitching or jiggling something then it doesn't feel right and I get very antsy. I just have to have something moving all the time. I've managed to get it down to small muscles so as to not shake the sofa etc but still cannot sit entirely still.

Haggisfish · 23/11/2020 21:06

I’m a jiggler too. Apparently it’s potentially why I’m not hugely fat, given how much I eat!

JustMeAndMyTins · 23/11/2020 21:09

ADHD? I can’t sit still at all. Although I don’t do those annoying, repetitive things and I find them unbearable in others (probably because I can block out distractions)! I’m more of a slow fidgeter. 😂

Fedup21 · 23/11/2020 21:09

Omg, this is my DH. It’s the biting of the nails/picking the skin around his nails/making general slurping noises with his fingers in his mouth that make me want to strangle him.

He makes a lot of noise when eating dinner as well-I can’t bear loud hideous scraping of the knife on a plate and he seems to do it continually throughout the meal. It sets my teeth on edge!

Angry
JustMeAndMyTins · 23/11/2020 21:10

Urgh. I meant to say CAN’T block out distractions, of course!

Nottherealslimshady · 23/11/2020 21:17

I'm the jiggler. I can't just be doing one thing, I have to be doing multiple things at the same time. I fiddle with things aswell and end up breaking things or picking paint off. I dont even realise tbh.

Mollypolly2610 · 23/11/2020 21:32

oh no its me!
jiggle my legs, shuffle my feet, pick my cuticles, up and down off the chair to do nothing, pick at my scalp
i must be so annoying

N1C0le · 23/11/2020 21:40

The repertoire tonight moved on to drumming fingers on back of sofa, then caressing own leg then drumming fingers on leg and back to wiggling fingers in trainer.
I am sleeping in the spare room.

Cracking knuckles..... Gives me rage.

Porgy657 · 23/11/2020 22:08

My DP seems to be able to make the sofa, me and my phone if I have it in hand vibrate when he sits and jiggles, I can’t focus in on the telly or read a book for the movement....after a long day it can be harder to laugh about but he’s quite good and will sit in the single seat for a bit....then he falls asleep and snores 😂

Yeahnahmum · 24/11/2020 00:54

Maybe he is bored
Maybe he is just restless
Maybe he just likes to move a lot

And if you didn't like all this
You shouldnt have married him Grin
You've made your bed

SimonJT · 24/11/2020 09:27

Are you married to me 😳

I struggle to keep still, I knew that but didn’t realise how bad I am until my boyfriend filmed me watching a film. I’m often not consciously aware I’m doing it.

I do have ADHD, which does make it harder, I have to make a conscious effort to be still. I had a CT scan a few years ago and it took several attempts as I couldn’t keep still enough.

GenevaL · 24/11/2020 22:05

My husband does all of the above but it’s the scraping his teeth up and down with his nails that drives me absolutely INSANE. And when we watch films, he crosses a leg and bounces a knee up and down up and down up and up and down so it’s all I can see in the corner of my eye. Distracting, fidgeting, annoying sod.
